Cool **** MLR at SPA 2008: Mon 12th of May ****

Here is the 3rd edition of the MLR trackday at SPA FRANCORCHAMPS

The main piece: The Spa track day :

This year the day will happen on Monday 12th of May.

The format is exactly what you'd expect from an MLR trackday; open pit lane, free professional instruction, tyre services and trackside photography. We're also aiming to be able to offer paddock support so niggly little problems won't stop you enjoying the day.

MLR member price is only £169.00 (non member £189.00) and can be booked through the MLR Shop until the day is full, so please book as soon as possible as this is a popular event!

Additional charges on the Day :

Garages: £50.00 / €75.00. Max 2 cars allowed, pre booking possible for people who already fully paid their day. Contact Greg on spa@destexhe.com
Additional drivers: £35.00 / €50.00
Passengers: £10.00 / €15.00
Helmet Hire: £10.00 with £50.00 deposit / €15.00 and €75.00 deposit
Lunch: Catering available at the track restaurant at very affordable price (lunch and breakfast – details to be confirmed)

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ THIS:

It's good news that the Spa trackday has been reinstated, but the circuit does have a problem with noise and they are working with the locals and the government to come to a satisfactory agreement for everyone, starting with trying to spread the noisy days throughout the weeks and not having a noisy trackday immediately after a race meeting (which our day does).

The way they are looking at it is if a car is road registered it should be relatively quiet and meet European road traffic laws (around 98db) - ie: not an ex race car or similar, so the cars we take should be ok even though some wouldn't pass 98db limit. They are not saying that all the cars have to meet 98db (this year!) but have asked the MLR to ensure all cars attending respect the problem they have, and it's in all our interests to make sure we do. If we have a lot of noisy cars we seriously risk not being allowed back so please DO NOT assume your car will be ok!

- do what you can to ensure your car runs under 102db
- get it checked at a circuit or using a noise meter readily available on the web (test: 1/2m at 45deg and at 3/4 rev range)
- if you have a side exit exhaust, take it off and run a quieter system
- do not remove any removable silencers

If you have any concerns or questions about your car please email or PM myself or Greg.

The Nürburgring :

Just as last year we will be dropping by the next door Nürburgring which is currently planned to be opened on Sunday 11th from 8 am till 7:30 pm on both days. The MLR will be there on Sunday 11th with our resident instructor Daniel in an Evo X to either take you out for a passenger lap or for you to follow him in your car for a lap and learn your way around the ring in relative safety. This service will be at an extra cost of 20.00 euros per passenger or per car if following. I’m sure other people on the board will happily do this for free, we chose Daniel (who is not free!) because he is a qualified ring instructor and he is not there to scare the light out of you but for you to discover this wonderful track in one piece!

Hotel information will be posted later: a link will be added here

And channel crossing info can be found here

Well looking forward to this. Just realised the Dover to Dunkerque crossing is 1.45 hours. I'm tempted too use the Tunnel, anybody else using the tunnel?

The boats usually have a few of us on together Baz And if Mick429 is there, we can follow him again, and see if he can actually kill us all, and cause total chaos in a little village again

You definitely don't want to be talking that up after last year

Mind you ... wasn't it just me heading for a nasty incident and the rest of you looking on laughing

Bazzer ... I will also have a decent supply of travel sickness pills. 1.45 hours goes much quicker than you think when there is a group on board too

I seem to remember most of us following (trusting souls that we all are) and some (read Darin amd lill' ol' me) being stuck half way across train tracks, heading the wrong way down the street, with little or no way to turn, in a brand new (loaned to us) FQ360

Don't worry guys - sounds much worse than it was - honest

oh how we laughed
