Phoneline only needs to be in the box for the engineer to activate cards, you can pop it out again after

We've sky 10 years, had it in and out a few times and always do the above

You don't need a phone line if you buy the box from ebay and plug it in yourself.
All you have to do is phone sky and ask for the HD package to be added (£10 a month). Takes about 2 mins and is well worth it if you have an HD TV.
