Having had my evo for 12 years now:eek::coolsm:......and tracked it/modded it etc etc....even tho 99% of people said im mad and its mint already it was time for the old girl to get some proper love, rather than bolting on expensive alcons and diffs etc.

Im a panel beater by trade,so it does help:D...there was nothing major wrong, but if i left it another few years then it would be a bigger and bigger job...so thought to take it off the road for a year and get it done.

Having looked at some threads on here and doing some research i opted for the "on a spit on its side proper jobbie"...rather than on my back underneath!

How it was...

Started the big strip down....i know nearly every nut and bolt on the evo 6,as ive fitted roofs, cages etc.

Looking sorry for itself..

Inner wings came up fine with a bit of a clean...

Car getting fully stripped to go on the rollover jig.

Having done a "few" rally cars with my old man:shake::lol:...then i knew that buying a spit was the only option....deluxe mk2 mania spit...ace bit of kit.:coolsm:...so easy.

Having looked at the car underneath,i knew it wasnt great and would need doing...not a show car but not a dog either...for a 16 year old 6 it was pretty decent.

Inspirational read! Just started doing mine and about to order some rust bullet, but not sure which product to use? The chap who sells it has said to use standard as its thicker and apply with a brush or roller, I'm assuming you sprayed yours with the automotive version? how was it to work with?

Yes done about 600 miles including 3 trackdays....havent noticed a thing.:wallbang::lol:..it boosts to 1.9 bar peak as before, and is quick as quick was.

Phil how much oil do use when running the slicks?
They are not "full" slicks....tarmac rally tyres..i always run over half a litre extra on track..say 5mm above max line on the dipstick.

Well after about 15 trackdays since the refurb i noticed a rough start up for 5 seconds, a tiny lack in power...and a loss of water....all points to failed headgasket:blah:

Took it to doctor cpp:).....headgasket totally fine:wallbang:.... pressure tested head...cracked head!:( .least we got to the bottom of the problem.

Cpp fitted a new evo 8 head, transfered my MR cams etc over...new stem seals oils/belts etc..new cosworth 1.3mm gasket

Now have ARP L19 studs holding it all together:coolsm:

Runs perfect now, must have been losing a bit of power, cos it seems a bit quicker.

Top job by lads at cpp.

2-3 trackdays left this year,..back to kicking its head in.:naughty::D

Nice car, inspiration taken, in the process of doing my 6 too!!

If it comes out looking half as good as that I will be well happy!!

Need to start my thread on mine, but think the updates would end up being few and far between the speed I'm going at with mine!

Cracking thread just read it from start to finish I'm sure I know the car but can't put my finger on how or why lol. I'm about to start the rebuild of my 6 but my rear legs aren't looking to good nothing fresh metal and lots of hours cant sort I'm sure :)

Thought the engine bay needed a de-clutter,so had cpp custom make all my pipes from intercooler up....less joins, less chance of leaks....race battery kit...evo 9 hks J pipe, murray clamps all round...

Before...

After...

Had a mint fuel tank fitted too,and new walbro pump.

On the next trackday at blyton, noticed it puffed a tiny bit of smoke on cold start up.....after much fiddling, found the cause....

Valve stem seals or maybe guides, dont know till head is removed.

Supertech ones are fitted a few years ago,but heard some stories of them going hard.:(

So head off later on this year, refurbed, new valve stems and/or guides, new cossie head gasket...etc.etc.:wallbang:

Think i might get genuine seals this time.
