View Full Version : Average Speeds.....
I had a spare few minutes so thought I would see what the average speed was of all the Classes round Rockingham and Teeside.......
Now being Rockingham is meant to be a big power track the average speed is only 5 mph faster than Teeside which is a kart track, work that one out
I also worked out that for every 1 mph faster/slower on the average speed this gives around +/- 0.8 seconds lap difference...
All the times are from this years Class winners.

What a Geek! :)
I was trying to work out BHP differences and how much time is gained/lost by having say a 400 bhp car to a 650 bhp the above is just a by product of what I was doing........
Sorry for being a geek, I will get my coat :mhihi:
Mmmmmmh, Would this be anything to do with the new Regs? ;)
Nice to see someone( who has the time) letting others know, so that they can make informed decisions.
Surprising that big power is not all it's cracked up to be

80mph average around Teeside is pretty amazing  Tbh I can't see more than a couple of places where you could get above 80mph round there:confused:
God you must have nothing better to do
Only joking, can't believe the average speed at teeside:eek:
Anyway where are these regs :naughty:
Interesting Lee - thanks for taking the time to work it out and share with us :)
The Class B car at Teeside must have been going for it?? :mhihi:

Lee can you explain how you worked these figures out, how did you know the distance the cars had travelled for each lap?

I cant see this being right if i'm honest. Rockingham was all 3rd/4th/5th flat out butt clenching brave stuff but Teesside was 2nd/3rd/4th with some proper slow hairpins
Apologies if i'm wrong!

We know how big the tracks are at Rockingham and Teeside, I forgot to do the others when we were there :(
You then work out mileage V lap time, then it will give you an average speed around the track.......

it seems braking distances need to be taken it to acount here as well ,never mind the higher speeds ,obviously you brake allot earlyer when doing say 150 mph for the same corner when you only doing say 70 .

Someone must have been using a Vbox round these tracks. That would give very accurate times and distances covered .

I would have to agree with Gav here, I've done literally hundreds of laps at Rockingham instructing and would agree that 80mph is probably about right for a standing start in an Evo etc. for Rockingham but I would doubt very much that an Evo could average 80mph round Teeside.

Not sure without looking, 52 something at a guess. Why?

All I have done is worked out the data we have from the sprints and the times we were getting, I couldn't believe it and checked it over a few time, but it still keeps coming back as the same speeds.

Just so I could work out what speed you was doing, as Brands is not a super fast track, but it works out your average speed was 83mph. The touring cars do Brands in 48.s which is 90mph so only 7 MPH faster.just to get some comparison on speed and time that's all.

on a completely differant aspect the front runners on some stages on the MULL RALLY this year averaged a quite STUNNING 76 MPH ,tarmac rally stages are timed at maximum 75 any faster and you fall fowl to the bogey time
we did a rally a few years ago i worked out we averaged 61 mph for the whole event ,but that was a 1300 cc nova quite good with only 115 bhp

I asked Kenny1 what averages he reckoned for Rockingham and Teesside (but without telling him what had been posted). He said 80 for Rockingham and under 50 for Teesside. Sounds more like it to me:)
Yeah it cant be right as for me there was only one little 4th gear straight (little back straight) the rest was mostly 2nd
Lee get yourself back to school mate

thing is the figures shouldnt lie ,you have distance and a time ,if both are accurate its only basic maths to work it out
youve got to look at the amount of time you think your at a certian speed and how quick you get there
any one know who quick there car 20 to 80 MPH ,and then from 60 to 120 ,thre corners may be slower on some tracks as said but it may not affect the average speed as its gets to the getting quicker
Hi Lee. At Teeside there is only one place where you are over 80mph for more than a split second. Therefore it is literally impossible to averge 80mph there. I am not doubting your calculations but I am doubting the information given to you. Please check your distance for Teesside mate.:)
Could you post your the length of th Teesside track please?
