hi,
just been on the phone to elephant to get an insurance quote and they have told me that they do not underwrite the tommi because it is classed as an import. when i purchased the car from ccc 4 years ago now i was told that the vehicle was a uk model and not classed as an import. anyone shine any light??

The problems not with your car. The insurance company simply don't understand these cars. Some idiot underwriter has ticked a box saying these cars were not sold officially in the UK (not that it makes any difference) because he doesn't know what he's doing.

You're better off dealing with a specialist insurer that knows Evo's, such as the MLR's official insurer Pace Ward :).

tried pace ward last year but they were not that competitive for me for some reason, i don't have any endorsments and f/n/c. maybe i will give them another try this year. thanks

Pretty sure there were only 200 or 250 "official" Ralliart imports of the Mak :)
Yep 250 total - 50 in red, blue, black, silver and white :coolsm:

Mine has always shown on the insurance as an import although it's a Ralliart UK car. As Dave says the difficulty is finding an insurance company who knows what a TME is! PW luckily are one that does :)

Dan, just try and find a good insurer. Speaking from experience, I'd never go for an insurer based purely on price. If you ever need to make a claim you may wish you'd spent a bit more.
your right been insured with tesco's for 4 years and been lucky enough not to have any claims but i want to start modifing the car properly and i don't think they will understand!! Did your premium go up considerably when you added ecu and other mods??

Only slightly. Finding an insurer that understands mods as well as Evo's is even tougher. I had a one policy cancelled by my then insurer after I changed the air filter .

Seriously though if you want to be sure you got everything covered and be comfortable with the fact you've got an insurer who can and will help in the event of a claim, PW is a great choice. I can't speak about any other good Evo insurers because I've not dealt with any

Strange this should come up now,i have had my UK Mak from new for 4yrs now and it was 4 last week therefore ive just had my renewal through.I insured it with Nch Union when new for £1000. as they were one of the very few who would insure it and this years quote is £1250.I know people who insure GSR's with Liverpool Victoria for nearly half that but when i tried them they said they couldn't quote on it as they only had the GSR listed and no reference to the TME.I have a friend who is a broker and when i asked him why my premium was so high he said it was because if you have a total loss you can insist the insurer find you a replacement rather than accept a payout and because there were only 250 official UK TME's this would be difficult to do therefore a high premium(bulls--t)i think. So if anyone with a UK TME comes up with a cheaper option please let me know. best wishes Wayne

A-Plan were excellent when I modded my car, only an increase of about £100 for all my mods :) They also allow me to take my car to the Ring, at no extra cost :coolsm:

Bex,

I will second that. A-Plan were by the far the best for me too. MR340, 36 Year Old, Wife as a named driver, class 1 business use all for approx £800.00.

Who did A-Plan put your insurance with ? Mine was Markus Study

Cheers

I'm with Adrian Flux who'll give you book value for the car and match like for like mod repalcement in the event of a claim.... as long as you mention EVERYTHING that wasn't on the original factory car. That includes Tinted windows and anything cosmetic too.

That's strange as they insured mine for a year so someone there must have known what a TME is
Pretty sure Makes had a similar thing with LV. Sure she said they insured her and then they said they didn't know what the Mak was and could no longer offer it to her

I hate renewal time, trying to explain to people what your car is :( Thankfully A-plan always give me a good renewal quote
