Everyday car

What do you - Evo owners - choose as an everyday car when you get to the point that Evo is not good for that purpose?

What car is sensible enough to justify not driving Evo and sporty enough to let you stand driving it?

I came to a point when I realised I do lots of "empty miles" in Evo, like driving it around city in heavy traffic or driving it on short city distances when it's cold or even on longer journeys when I travel with other purposes. So it's not even question of costs or inconviniences but just the lack of sense doing those miles in Evo when I have no use of it at all. So I need everyday car. But that's the dilemma... No car is good enough to combine rationality with pleasure.

What are your choices?

glad this came up .....

was thinkin tonight ... i really need to stop usin the evo as a daily runner can cover up to a hundred miles some days no problems ....
this aint good obviously from alot of angles..fuel...money....mileage...and the fact that every little a**hole tries to race you... thus leading to points..
i hate to admit coz i love drivin it all week, that its time to put away till the weekends and some nights... so i can apprieciate it more..... :coolsm:
also worked out with the money i spend on fuel i can easily afford a run about fuel and still save money ......

I got my Accord after leaving the Evo with 86,000 miles in 3 1/2 years. It's obviously not as quick in a straight line but it handles very very well, an seat 4 comfortably, big boot etc etc... and costs about 1/2 the money to run. The only problem can be finding them as they are relatively rare beasts. I see more Evo's around than Accord Type-R's.

I also drive my VIII as a daily driver but can't say I enjoy it every mile. For instance, I have about 5 miles from home to work, so it's still cold when I arrive and the same on the way back. Engine not warm enough = dull commuting. The same when I get out of work and drive it a few miles around city - cold engine, no revs, lots of traffic. There's absolutely no use for Evo-spirit then. I drive it exactly the same as I'd be driven any diesel or other boring car.

So what's the point in covering such "empty miles" in Evo? I do not see any. So I'm looking for a daily driver to save my Evo for those right roads and right times.

mine is a daily driver its all i want to drive .on the times i need to shift tools etc i use the wifes 325 td bmw.use to think the bm was a great driving car, then i got my evo.now i cringe at the thought of going anywhere in anything but the evo.i am lucky in that i live in a wee country village so car gets warmed up and covers some miles whereever i go.17000+ in 8 months.can,t under stand how someone could get up go outside see a fiesta and an evo and choose the fiesta.bought the car to drive it,not look at it.

Your second car doesn't have to be "sporty".....that kinda defeats the object.

I run about in a 1.3 KA and love every minute. It's fab in traffic, happy on the motorway and cheap to run (45 mpg). What's more, it makes the return to the Evo that bit more special :D :D

This kind of post often crops up and I really can't see the point of having a '2nd car' so to speak.

Anyone would think we were driving around in Ferraris or Lamborghinis or something

Come on, lighten up, we are driving around in cheap Jap mobiles that should be driven every day... Not stored in a garage just for a weekend run.

Why waste money on a 1.0 Fiesta

Even if I did have a £100k+ Supercar, that would still be my daily drive :coolsm:

So i keep the miles down, keep servicing costs down, petrol costs down, insure for limited mileage, i think if you use it as an everyday driver the fun factor isnt as huge as it is if you use it for the spirited drive at weekend for example.

But, as you say, you lot do drive around in Jap saloons so i see your point :p

When your weekly commute often exceeds 600 miles? That's over 25,000 miles a year just sitting in traffic jams or at 75mph on the motorway.

25,000 miles

5 oil changes

At least 3 services

1-2 sets of tyres

1 set of brakes

££££££££

or

a 1.0 Polo that does 45+mpg and costs peanuts to run? Plus, when you finally get in the Evo on Saturday it feels like a bloody cruise missile :)

ive got an escort si for my everyday car, good enough for the 10 mile trip up the motorway to work every nite, no worries about it getting dinged in the car park by some jealous **** like my p1 did, damaged with what looked a centre punch on the door and bonnet, safe to park in tesco, gym etc and cheap to run, left more money to mod the evo and use it when i want to enjoy it

I don't drive mine everyday as I can't afford to.....

Finacially it's fine (if you think an Evo is expensive to run, try a new Ferarri).....but licence points....I just don't have the self control in an Evo to do 700 miles a week in it and not end up banned. :D
