Why is V-Power better. Iv tested both extensively and find my car runs much better on Tesco 99. Pulls Harder, idles better and generally feels better.
V-power degrades really quickly..and unless its reatively fresh then its total shite. Now if it were fresh then its a different matter. But iv never had a bad batch of Tesco 99. Where as iv had some bad batches of V-power.
Im aware there are more minerals ect in v-power which supposedly help the engine out. But isnt that what your oil is for??? So in theory, as long as your running good oil, then it should be fine.
As I understand it from what more intelligent people than me have explained it, Tesco 99 Ron has it's Ron number upped by adding ethanol which increases ron, can take more timing without knocking, but has a lower calorific value.
However, V-Power has a higher calorific value for a similar Ron, so should be more powerful but doesn't have the increased capacity for timing, so may make the car run slightly "rougher".
Just speaking from my personal experience. Spent 4 months testing fuel and everytime find 99 makes the car run and feel better. Always feels faster on 99 to.
I once did some work with a guy who had more academic qualifications than anyone else I've ever seen (phd, 2 masters - one in astrophysics, and about 4 bachelor degrees), he worked in the biofuels industry and had recently completed testing on all the commonly available pump fuels.
This was back in early 2006, but he told me the highest ron of any fuel tested (including Opitmax - I don't think V-Power was around then) was the Tesco 99 ron, which tested at well over 100 ron.
