Hiya,

Getting my new MR next weekend and I would like to try and protect this one from stone chips as best as possible. I am looking into firstly haing the paint treated to give it a show room shine that never needs waxing so I am told lasts at least a year then a company called master shield want to cover the whole bonnet bumper wings and A posts with a film I am told it will look fantasic and no lines. Its no armour fend is completely flexible and has a 7 year guarentee but I am not sure about how the car will look when finished.

Any advise recommendations etc would be really appreciated.

Try sending a PM to a guy called paintshield - they use 3M scotch panels and its pretty good stuff. Make sure you get it done by a specialist such as him because some dealers (not referring to mitsubishi) are offering it now and the finish on some of them are absolutely shocking.

I saw a car with that 3M stuff on it and it looked like they had just stuck big bits of sellotape all over the front of the car.

If they guarantee it will be invisible and show no lines then all well and good, but if you can see it, why protect paint with something that makes the paint look worse?

Yeah, it needs to be done properly as a specialist will have a great fitting template. Bad fits usually show overlap and even worse - yellow covering where it is starting to come away or not completely bonded. There is a huge huge huge difference between a good fit and a bad fit.

However, I have always had this question (and this is the reason why I never got it done) - if you get a stone chip on the protector cover then you still have a stone chip. It would be cheaper (in my mind) to respray that bit as opposed to getting the another panel covered in the 3m stuff?

Suppose it all goes back to the question 'has anyone any experience of the job' and how it's faired over a year or two.

360 obviously wants to protect his new pride and joy (wish I had as I don't think Mitsi paint jobs are that brilliant).

Let us know how it goes 360 after you've had it done. It'll make an interesting thread.
