View Full Version : Track evening and BBQ at AUTODROME
Perfect for those Summer evenings just around the corner (!) the MLR has just booked a track evening at Jonathan Palmer's AUTODROME, 6 miles North of Bedford. This will be followed by a BBQ at one of the trackside suites . . . . and no, 'rally car' will not be on the menu!! [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/biggrin1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle ><!--e13-->
General details are;
Arrival at 3pm. Complimentary drinks and sandwiches during Welcome from PalmerSport Chief Instructor. Signing on and briefing followed by tour of the Palmersport race workshops and facility (and noise testing if considered necessary - 101 dba static, 87 dba drive-by). Unlimited tracktime on the 2.1 mile South West circuit starts at 17:00 with 5 Palmersport instructors available for tuition throughout. Tracktime will finish at 20:00 for the barbeque at the trackside suite.
(Helmets are compulsory for all drivers and passengers and will be available for hire on the day. Fuel is also available at the circuit)
Places are limited to 40 cars and because we want to make it totally an MLR event it won't be thrown open to anyone else for 3 weeks - so please BOOK NOW to avoid disappointment.
The event is being managed for the MLR by Palmersport themselves. Price per car/driver £135, £25 per passenger (1 per car which includes the BBQ). Welcome /information packs will be sent upon application. For all bookings and information please telephone Liz Bushnell on 01403 733999 or <a href|EQU| mailto:support@ultrascripts.com >liz.bushnell@palmersport.com</a><!--url--> Payment for the event can be made by Visa and Mastercard.
Hope to see you there

When is this
Darin,
A date would be nice? [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/biggrin1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle ><!--e13-->
is this related to Don Palmer of driving development? Went to his sideways driving course at MIRA once and it was fun.
lawrence
still waiting for the date, Darin?
Sorry guys! The date is 13th July, and it has nothing to do with Don Palmer.
Nice,
Go down for Friday qualifying to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, cheap entry and not many queues!
Then across to Bedford to put into practise what you have just watched![img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle ><!--e1-->
Good timing of dates Darin!
Thanks

I've asked Liz for a provisional booking - won't know my work schedule until the middle of this month. Looks like a great idea - plus should be able to stock up on Coke glasses! [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle ><!--e1-->
Booked today!--first outing for my virgin 7. Needs a good seeing-to!

13th july ,then count me in Darin.
Dunno about eating a burger when driving?
. . . and one further option for the evening is the Bedford Autodrome 'SuperRide'. Before you all jump to semi-pornographic conclusions (already too late I know for some of you!!) this is Autodrome's own version of the two seater 'slicks n' wings' Formula 1 style car with over 300 bhp on tap.
The car can be made available during the evening subject to a minimum of 6 guests wishing to take-up the experience. This must be confirmed in advance of the evening, no later than one week before, and the car is run on the same circuit as the guest cars, the exact timing of which will be the decision of the Chief Instructor on the day.
For full details of the 'SuperRide' and all other details relating to the MLR track evening and BBQ, please contact Liz Bushnell at <a href|EQU| mailto:support@ultrascripts.com >liz.bushnell@palmersport.com</a><!--url-->

Today's daft question:
Planned to go to the Autodrome.
There are noise limits to adhere to and if your car fails them that's £135 wasted. Car is booked in - their answer was to trek up there before hand and pre test! What a waste of time!
My car has an induction kit and HKS Super Drager - will it pass is my concern?
Any thoughts.

I assume (but dont' know) that they will offer bolt-on cans for tail pipe to make the car comply (like they did at Castle Coombe this year) - can someone involved in opganising the doo please ask the question and post-back the answer - it will avoid a lot of upset people !! [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/Happy.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| middle >
The noise limit at Autodrome is 101db which I've been told is only (statically) tested once, by that I mean if there are 20 Evo6's they'll test one and assume the rest are ok, unless they have reason to suspect otherwise(!), then go on to the next car.
As with all trackdays there are noise limits (some better than others), and certainly for all the ones I've organised I've forewarned people of those limits and tried to make it clear that it is the owner's responsibility to ensure the car passes. The bottom line has to be; if in doubt get it tested.
As 'we' haven't been to Autodrome before it'll be interesting to see how strictly it's enforced, but Howard has told me that they regualrly have TVR's and Scoobies running around and they are generally noisier than your 'average' Evo . . . not that any Evo is average!!!!
I'm not aware that they offer bolt-on silencers - and I don't know any other circuit that does except Castle Combe where you can 'buy' one from Merlin Motorsport, who share the same site, but if you have ANY questions I'd advise contacting Liz at Autodrome on 01403 733999 or liz.bushnell@palmersport.com

The SIDC ran a similar evening at Bedford recently. From my Scooby owning days I know just how loud some cars are. I'll send an email to Pete Croney and Stef, <!--http--><a href|EQU| http://www.sidc.co.uk/committee.htm target|EQU| _blank >SIDC Committee</a><!--url--> to see if they will come on here an post any thoughts.

Hi Guys
Howard has indeed asked me to comment.
The test is at 0.5m from the tailpipe at 45 degrees.
On both days I have been to Bedford, all Imprezas and Evos have passed the test, including all of those with well known aftermarket full exhaust systems.
We did have one Impreza that failed for no known reason, but he let it cool down, moved it onto the grass and it then passed. The grass not reflecting sound back probably helped.
There is a microphone out on the track, but no Imprezas or Evos have exceeded its limit.
The circuit you want to be driving is the South West or the GT.
Awesome place, can't wait to get back there.
Have fun guys [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/happy1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle ><!--e1-->

Well I don't need to worry about noise or tyres after all.
It has been cancelled, because there were only 9 takers! [img]http://www.ltregister.f9.co.uk/graphics/sad1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle ><!--e2-->
