My clutch has just started slipping now and when you boot it the revs soar up to about 6500 and it pulls like a train:D :D :D

Question is, how long have I got before I am stranded? :D

Still don't know what clutch to get, prob gonna get an AP organic.

I heard Blitz are doing their own now which comes with a flywheel for £852, anyone heard about them at-all?

Change it quick and you may get away without a flywheel!!

I don't think you'll have much chance of getting away without a flywheel. Get it done very soon and you might get away without a recovery vehicle. :)

Oops!:D

Car is virtually undriveable now, just need to get it over to a friends to have new clutch put in.

Going for an AP now as it needs doing asap.

I'll let you know if the flywheel is shagged and then you can all laugh at me:rolleyes:

Chris,
If the car is virtually undriveable then I'll put money on you needing a new flywheel as well.....

If its not too late I would get the Helix organic. Having had both the AP and Helix, I would say the feel of the Helix is slightly more positive and Xtreme say the last longer!

I'd advise staying off the paddle type clutches unless the car is way up on power or you are doing some sort of motorsport. They are not designed for working in traffic and wear out really quickly under these conditions. They are also too harsh for most people.

I found that the pukka twin plate Ralliart one was the best for everyday use on my roadgoing RS450 - £1200 or so but worth it as it lasted 10,000 miles with nice pedal action.

Incidentally, just had the Helix 6-paddle replaced in the rally car after 500 miles - flywheel was mullered as well!

Can you do away with the flywheel? It's only there to help prevent stalling isn't it?

If you can't do away with it what's the cheapest light flywheel?

And what's the best of the cheaper uprated clutches?

Dave

If you did away with the flywheel, what would the clutch fit on:confused:

Evo flywheels are not any kind of weight anyway so lightening is nowhere near as effective as with other cars. Also, because they are so thin they take a lot of heat meaning that you have to replace them most times you do a clutch change.

IMO, for a standard..ish car the standard clutch is the best balance of wear, feel and cost.

Hi,

My standard 7 has just done 15,000 (hard motorway) miles and the clutch has just started slipping when I floor the pedal in 5th at 90.

Is 15000 miles about average?

I am about to get a Helix fitted by PE at a total cost of around £1,100 fitted. It sounds a lot (especially when you didn't expect to have to replace it). But PE always seem to be reasonable when compared to others.

Is the Helix likely to last longer (generally)?

Love the car (no surprise there) but after one year I have spent £1,000 on servicing, £600 on front pads and discs (warped again already) and now £1,200 on a clutch. Still, I get so much pleasure from driving it it is worth it.

£195 for a speed delimiter is not 'reasonably priced'.

Hi,

PE removed the speed limiter from my Grey Import 7 and I cannot remember exactly how much they charged me but I think it was less that 195 and although it seemed a lot, the service and more importantly, the after sales service makes me believe that I got value for money.

(I don't work for them by the way, I just like to tell it as it is. I am quick to complain about some companies and so it is important to be equally quick to praise good ones? yes?)

Steve,
Does that price from PE include the price of a flywheel as well?
If not, then it does seem a bit on the high side.
How much is the clutch on it's own?

Cheers

Steve Hills replaced my clutch and flywheel for about £750, went for the standard one again though.
Mine lasted 17k miles but I did drop it a few times :)

Hi,

They quoted around 480 for the clutch (didn't mention the flywheel but at that price it looks like it may be included?? I have no idea?) and around 380 for fitting, plus bits and pieces (oils, fluids etc.). If you add the dreaded VAT on top then it comes out around 1000 to 1100.

It is expensive but then I shouldn't thrash it should I (As if !!!!!)

I'd check and make sure that the f/wheel is included otherwise you'll be looking at another £250ish on top of the price already...

£1200 for fitting a clutch does seem v. expensive though. Have you tried gettting quotes from other people?

Hi,

I haven't had any other quotes (which sounds a bit daft I know) but they are very local, very friendly, very professional and so far I am happy with everything they have done for me. Basically I know that I might be able to get something a little bit cheaper if I shop around but then it will be from someone I don't know and it will probably be miles away . With PE I can drop my car off in the morning and get a lift to work and then pick it up same day (usually). If I go somewher else I might have to lose time off work (and I wouldn't get paid) and I might have to travel for hours? As long I am not getting ripped off then it is OK and PE would not rip me off (they might charge a little bit more occasionally but they would not rip anyone off)

I really do appreciate the help and advice I get from this site and thanks everyone for the constant help offered, it is ALWAYS welcome.

And to think I bitch about forking out 300 pounds (in your money) when I replace my clutch?! (OE clutch, always seems to save the flywheel) ;) :D
