Non-members are welcome, but we have to give preference to members. If there are any spaces left nearer the time, you're welcome to come and run.
OK, thanks for the quick reply, email me closer to the time if there might be a space.

I'm not sure how easy or possible that is on a day like this, but remind me when we're there and I'll ask WRC.

Just out of interest Dave, is the list your doing the running order, or is that decided on the day?
We decide the running order on the day. What we do is group the cars together based on wheelbase and then we run the cars in order in each group depending on the order everyone turns up and registers on the day.
Basically, if you want to run earlier in the day, get there and get registered asap.

Hoping to be there late morning/mid day ...then do a run soonish so if poss be away by 2ish so i can get to Z's at reasonable time... does this sound possible ?
Also im presuming its easy to find and in through main entrance ?.... ive only been to Silverstone once to the MLR sprint and we used a side entrance if i remember correctly ?
Cheers
Ian
Ian, that'll be fine. We just group the cars together based on wheelbase where possible.
Some directions below. Basically, come off the A43 to Silverstone circuit. Drive through the main entrance of Silverstone and then right at the first roundabout you come to. WRC are down this road on the left.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, please follow Allan's instructions below:
1] Form up on access road--Do not enter our Courtyard please.
2] Check your fluids before you leave and bring some oil with you.
3] In order to speed up the day, please check your own tyre pressures. Guages avail.
4] Food van will be on site from 08-15 ready to serve from around 08-45. Please support them for coming out so early on a Sat. The breakfast baguettes are awesome !

Jason, come on down if you can. Take a look towards the bottom of the previous thread for directions.
Just like to say a big thank you to Dave & Darin for organising a fun if long and cold (but ultimately fruitless for me - catch up later in the week Darin, just drop me a pm/email) day at WRC-Tech.
Thanks also to Allan and Chris at WRC for the facilities and not forgetting the catering peeps who helped stave off the cold with gallons of tea and lashings of bacon/egg butties.
Nice to put some more faces to names i.e. Chris, Ashley, StevieG (and wife - sorry I didn't get your name), Steve (Bowen), Bruce Lee and top group buy organiser Mechell.
Cheers one and all,
thanks every1 at wrc technologies cheers to RICH at RG MOTORSPORT 4 setting up the car perfect man. Cant believe it made 404 bhp at the flywheel and 388 lb-ft of tourqe and 307.3 at the wheels and its only stage3. TOP TUNER well recomened to every1 top man RICH.
I would like to also thank Darin and Chell for arranging this day - I was impressed with WRCs setup and the days organisation, they even talking me through what they were doing while i was sat in the passanger seat of my car during my rolling road run.
It was good to meet and chat to some of you - its nice to meet up with like minded people that share the same passion for these cars :)
stevefj - It was nice to meet and chat to you too :) Sorry i couldn’t stay for your run - how did it go?
Chell - Beth said it was really nice to meet you and to let us know if you need any tickets ;)
I was very chuffed with my results as well - 400bhp ATF (304 bhp ATW) and 380 lb-ft of torque with no flat spots –just from bolt-ons!
Definitely very happy with Si Norris's mapping! :D
Well done to all :) very good day ( all be it bloody cold ) A big thanks to Mark Shead M.A.D. for sorting my turbo set up. Now the AMS GT30 is the right spec, 444ATW on 2ltrs is superb. The car is awesome on the road  ...........roll on Time Attack

great day everyone, nice to meet you all and thanks to everyone who made the day happen.
Thanks to all involved who made the day possible, it ran very smoothly with little in the way of problems and the burger bar was most definetely a welcome addition. Bit on the cold side mind but thats the great british winter for you. The car did good and produced more or less what it did last time, so can't complain!
It was nice to chat with both Steve's and other like minded Evo nuts on the day, although a big shame about your run stevefj - Shouldn't of happened :(.

Great day :D as above big thanks to the WRC and MLR teams for making it happen :).... i had trouble with boost control again so will be investigating further soon to try and pinpoint the problem...still my old girl made 271hp atw despite a crazy fluctuating boost curve... so around 357hp atf but more importantly to me ( edited to note i was looking at wrong part of graph if you read previous post  ) 416ftlbs at the fly :D....still plenty more to come ;)
Graphs to follow once my scanner starts to play ball!
Just got back after the 700mile+ weekend trip i made to include this day!....im knackered

My graphs.... First one Power & Torque ATW...Boost graph to follow which shows why im a little down on power :(
thetyrant
10-12-2006, 18:06
And now Power and Boost...note how the boost (dotted line) hits its target of 1.65bar target then dips back down to 1.4 and slowy creeps back up.... not sure what the reason is yet but it doesnt do it on the road.. well a little maybe but not as noticable...so guess the rollers are making it more obvious but its no doubt affecting the power reading :(.....will be sorted before it goes back on the rollers and will map for a bit more boost as well next time :D
thetyrant
10-12-2006, 18:09
Something else ive just noticed.... the Rev scale is not right ?.... car hits limiter at 7200 which im sure we did on the rollers but looks more like 6200 on graph even though spool up end looks about right...odd

Big thanks to Darin and co. for making the day happen again !
Thanks to Kev for your kind words, but you deserve those results.
Would like to give Nick G. (Nick-mac) and Neil W. (Glicew) a big thankyou for showing with their cars with the anticipation of similar figures to Kev H.
Unfortunately it seemed the battle we had to get the power to the dyno on Kev's white evo6 repeated on us with Nick's evo 8 mr and as such we didn't even see the point in running Neils evo 5.
Thetyrant...... Your rpm scaling problem is part of the complete inaccuracy caused by calibration of engine rpm to dyno roller speed.
It was for this reason that Kev's car ran twice (amongst wheel spin issues) We found that his car data-logged to 8000rpm but the dyno gave initial results to 6500rpm. We then wired into a tacho signal for the dyno reference and we got the graph shown on the results thread. Unfortunately using the tacho signal offers the dyno a reference which will mask wheel spin on the graph, as it is no longer plotting a roller speed which has an inconsistant rate of acceleration during spin..... Shown as swirly pigtails on early graphs of T27 and Kev's and even the one after Kev at less than 300atw.
An inaccurate tacho reference will also result in a large change in torque calculation as it is critical to the rpm it was achieved.
Not sure if it may change the hp atw as a peak, but will certainly shrink your graph into a smaller power band.
Most cars would have been calibrated at 3500 rpm to the roller speed of the dyno. At that speed i am sure it will be correct, but as rpm increases it (somehow) manages to stray on some of the cars.
At RACING LINE one month ago ALL cars rpm were referenced of the injector pulse, and as such produced comparable power bands to data logs we took on Bob's , John's and Carl's.
We will be contacting Racing Line in the morning to request they run the three cars we took to WRC tech.
Thanks
Clive
well done mike marden shame about the exhaust bolts coming loose man well it will be sorted by monday evening let me no wen your poping back down to wrc,s if im not working ile come down with u mate.
A big thanks to Dave and Darin (and everyone else involved in the organisation).
Nice to meet everyone - was a good day, a bit cold but at least it wasn't raining :-)

Reading from wheel speed will mean reduced power if wheel spin is encountered.
The rollers are looking at wheel torque and roller speed, if speed is reduced but the torque remains roughly the same the RR will calculate the power using the lower speed measured at rollers.
Example, pretty close to Kev's:
Engine revs to 8000, due to slip RR shows 6500rpm, power measured as 470hp at the wheels, at 6000rpm. If true peak power was at 7350rpm, the amount would have been more like 470/6000*7350 = 576hp.
All roller based dynos suffer the same, and I certainly prefer an engine based RPM measurement.

The "problem" initially encountered on the big BHP cars was not wheelspin per se' it was roller shunt as the wheelbase setting for the earlier cars had been set up on a std car and was perhaps a little out of spec by the time the big bhp car came to be run, with their bigger, softer tyres etc
When this was adjusted a fraction and the car rerun it did not re-occur. This was irrespective of whether it was roller ratio or spark method. The car was shunting slightly onto the front roller causing a slight rocking and making it look like wheelspin.

Does it make a difference what gear the car is in when on the rollers? checked a previous printout (from over a month ago) the car was (then) in 4th gear at 112 mph when it achieved the previous power but at the weekend was in 3rd gear at 93mph, excuse my ignorance if a daft question

Makes no difference to the power output achieved or measured, although if the RPM on the dyno reads low, then the torque will be higher than reality.

Just returned from an afternoon spent at Racing Line with Nick's evo 8 mr. Some of you will have seen this car run at WRC on saturday and achieve a questionable result.
This car is of similar engine spec to Kev H.'s evo 6 gsr on a GT40/88R turbo and 2.35 bar boost.
Both cars ran Klotz 118 race fuel.
Kev's evo 6 produced 571.3 whp @ 6600rpm and 458 ftlb atw at WRC after two seperate attempts to get a result without wheel spin / Quote "shunting"
Nick's evo 8 mr ran much later in the afternoon ..... In theory after the earlier wheel base problems were corrected and reset for the evo 7,8,9's. It produced 409 whp at best and we were informed that it was "unlikely to be spinning"
After scrutineering Matt's strapping method and the subsequent results at Racing Line I now know why they had problems with the higher powered cars at WRC.
Nick's car today achieved 549 hp atw @6700rpm and 462 ftlb torque atw at Racing Line.
The car never left the trailer between the two venues and was still on the Toyo 888 tires which were at one point blamed for the results at WRC.
I would like to praise the Racing Line staff and especialy Matt for his care and attention to the car in question and ourselves and for an amazing level of service. You really cannot ask for more.
Thanks for reading

Mike Yes - here's an example with a Civic TypeR:

Also - faulty rpm calibration will cause torque to be wrong but bhp to remain accurate; wheelspin can affect both, as I understand things ;)
Cheers :)

Thanks for the nice comments from RC, Much appreciated. :)
At The Racing line we are happy to help anybody and you can be sure to get 100% service and satisfaction. ;)
Just to clear up about Tyres on Chassis Dynamometers ( Rolling Roads) The Dyno Dynamics Rollers are Knurled to help with traction, this works great. However the softer the tyre the more chance of traction breaking. As yet i have not had a problem with Toyo 888. but when you get to very soft tyre normally used for Drag racing I.E. MT or M&H, These type of tyre's are too soft and the knurles will strip the tyre. The best tyre is a decent road Tyre.
Thanks
Matt :D
I'd just like to echo Matts comments and thank RC for the kind words. Sorry I couldnt be there I'm sure it was a great afternoon.

We tried running our MT streets @ mattts and conrads rr - nightmare couldnt get traction and couldnt get a proper reading at alll , we tried everything !
Saying that My evo ran r888's with no slip on the rollers, did 653bhp at fly on pump fuel . But the rc cars are running another 100hp :)

It was me that brought up the potential problem with R888s on dynos. I've ran my Impreza on a knurled roller dyno and it had problems at high power. BUT this was after a fair time of pretty solid running at high boost, and by then the tyres were soft and sticky like they had been running on track. The ambient temperature was more like 25'C not 5'C and of course longer running.
It's work checking though as the relatively small contact patch means that soft tyres can run into problems where the roller starts disintegrating the tyre once hot. My car had sprayed the ceiling with rubber, and I've seen race cars do the same when running on their regular race slicks.
I am glad that WRC sorted the running problems with the higher powered cars, it was strange (at the time) to see the problem on low powered cars though, which of course has been understood.
