View Full Version : Extreme/Whiteline Handling Kits
Extreme Motorsport are please to be able to offer to MLR members the chance to get their hands on these Whiteline handling goodies at reduced rates.
Many of you who are interested in this Group Buy may have already modified your Evo, Most of you that have done so will almost certainly have increased the power output. But when you think about it Power is only part of the package, most of us buy these cars because they corner very very well.
Here is a chance to spend a couple of hundred quid and take several seconds off a lap time of your local track. How much money would you have to spend increasing the power to take that much time off? Would the car be as sure footed and safe doing it that way? I don't think so. The benefits clearly extend to the road as well.
Extreme and Whteline have put together these 'handling packages' for us.

The swaybar is indeed American for anti-roll bar :)

p.s. what difference do adjustable drop links make? Do they affect how the sway bar works or something else?
Cheers :)
Rog
Rog, While you can have any of the items you want if you only intend getting one then I would recommend getting the rear anti roll bar rather than the front. This will have a bigger affect on the cars handling and will keep everything balanced better rather than reducing roll at the front even more while leaving the rear alone.
Yes, adjustable anti roll bar drop links allow you to 'tension' or 'pre load' the anti roll bar.
Stage 1 seems a good buy! :p
Marky, whats ur opinion on the anti-rollbars.... how did they transform ur handling?
Thanks,
Ant.

I've just fitted a rear ARB which works really well, but the front now feels all over the place...
I'll try the front ARB first and take it from there :D

Ahh, I had a feeling after I posted it that you knew better and would already have the rear bar.
You rate it then? I had a very good friend of mine who I trust when it comes to all things car that told me mine was excellent but now needed a beefier set of anti roll bars which would transform it yet again :D
The Admiral

I've got an "alternate brand" ;) rear ARB which has transformed the rear of the car :D
I run std shocks & Tein springs on my IV...
On the middle setting, the rear rolls far far less through corners, giving much more grip than before - traction out of tight corners is also dramatically improved, with the rear staying flat and putting the power down e.g. coming off cambered roundabouts on the Kingswayburgring in Dundee, I used to get rear wheel spin, but now I dont :D
The rear also became more predictable and stable when lifting off or braking unexpectedly round a fast sweeping bend which I had to do the other day when following a certain black EVO V
I can also turn in far more aggressively without the rear becoming unstable, although my turn in is now limited by front end grip... Since fitting the rear ARB, I have had massively more understeer  I also reset the geometry, so this may be partly to blame, but the front now feels underdamped and generally all over the place, hence me wanting to try a stiffer front ARB too...
Cheers :)
Rog
One Stage 2 Evo 5 for me please.
1) What does a Rear bump steer kit KCA388 do?
2) Can postage be arranged to Belgium and at what price?

Has anyone tried the bump steer mod - how much difference does it make?
and does anyone know how these ARBs compare to the Cusco ones ?
Cheers,
Simon
The Admiral

I can tell you they're significantly cheaper than the Cusco ones, but can't tell you how they compare (I use a Cusco rear ARB)...
Front ARB Whiteline £102.23 Cusco £185.27 + vat. 4 weeks for delivery
Rog :)
Roll has been reduced noticeably since I had the front and rear ARBs fitted. On track or a twisty roads the car flows nicely through corners.
I'm only running the rear bar on the second stiffest setting out of four and the car feels quite neutral. My wheel alignment settings probably contributes to this aswell as I only run 1mm of tow in the rear. Rather than the standard 3mm.
As the car is stiffer wet grip has been compromised a little when pushing it. At Haynes and Rockingham I found I could get the car to break traction a lot easier. Although some of you may enjoy this.
The heavy duty bars for the VIII are 2mm thicker than standard. IIRC the Cusco bars are only 1mm thicker. Not sure how they compare, but they are a damp site cheaper.
I was going trying to the bump steer kit, but I just had the car alignment done recently. May be sometime next year when/if I get the done again.
Check out the fitting instructions section the Whiteline (http://www.whiteline.com.au/) website. The PDF for product code KCA388 has a short description of the kit. There is also some good techical info. about swaybars in the FAQ section.
Cheers

Hi
Please can I purchase
Front swaybar adjustable drop links KCL39 £66.96
Rear bump steer kit KCA388 £31.73
Cheers
Adi
i have the whiteline rear arb and bump steer kit.incredible difference in the feel and communication coming from the rear end.car feels so much more planted.the secondary steering"kick" i used to get as the weight transfered in hard cornering is gone.run stock 6 dampers with eibachs and the addition of these has completed the package.was running toe out at front for turn in but reset to parallel due to better transfer of weight.will probable get the front arb now.john and george will probably make me install it myself as well.can't recommend these highly enough.
Hi
Can I get
Rear swaybar BMR65XZ £115.15

Does anyone know how good/bad the bump steer is on a standard ride height E9. I could spend a day+ measuring it but :moon: the time needed
Also, how far is the roll centre moved??

I'm SO tempted to get this!
Does anyone know someone near wilts that can fit these kits and setup the geometry and have any idea of the labour cost?
Also what would suspension gurus suggest I get - the stage 1 package or a combo of other bits. (as this is more in my price range). My E6 currently has stock 6 dampers with eibachs, Front upper 3 point brace, 4 point front under brace, and a rear upper strut brace.
Cheers,
Steve
The Whiteline stuff is very good quality, a lot of gti-r's use them to good effect ....and exellent value.
becareful about fitting just front or rear as this is a poor short cut, you do need front and back to get the best from your car......
I went for cusco because the Whiteline was not yet availiable for the 6 at the time....
If you see the MLR Top Gear clips you will see my car come round the last corner ...the lack of roll can be seen very well (and on T1R'S :D )
Good group buy Weebl
Please could u put me down for a Stage 2 kit for 6.5 TME :)

Grant, as you know I have a 5. I honestly don't know mate. Contact Extreme direct on the number in the first post.
grants can't speak on the measurement side of things but do know that this bump steer product works.if you go on to whitelines web site and go into tech talk and then into fitting instructions you'll see a very good picture of the bushing installed in the toe control arm.that plus the description will show the potential of the product for deceasing or increasing bump steer .it definately took out the secondary steering kick i had.for everyone even after installing these parts you need to find a good alignment shop that is going to work with you to find the best set up for you.for anyone remotely close to extreme in whitburn call them.its worth the trip

Did you look at the the old bush to see if there was any play in it ?
All this kit does is move the mounting point for the toe control arm. To truly eliminate bump steer, it would need to rotate eccentrically to alter the length of the arm as it moved up and down.
According to the IV, V TIM, bump steer was reduced when designing the rear suspension:
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b305/spn72/EvoBumpSteercopy.jpg
As far as I'm aware, all moving the mounting point will do is alter the zero (vertical axis) point on the curve.
Cheers,
Simon

Thanks for your reply :)
Seems to confirm my view, that if you haven't changed the ride height, there is no need for a "bump steer" kit
I'm still not sure on the front roll centre kit, but await a reply from Whiteline UK, or OZ ;) ;)

I'm not sure about the roll centre kit either . Lowering the roll centre was one of the tweaks going from the V to the VI.
It may be of use if the car's been lowered though.

anyone know if the rear sway bar will get rid of that woolly feeling around fast bends????.........is it the same diameter or do you have to replace the bushes too??

It's bigger in diameter, that is one of the things that makes it better. Bushes come with it.

Have a look at the whiteline web site, there's a picture in the install guide.
Essentially, it's just a bush with an offset mounting hole so you could use it to run more toe.
I'm surprised you can't get any toe in - have you had the camber checked ? You'd probably need to be running zero or even positive :o rear camber to have a problem with toe.
The adjustment slots can get blocked with dirt so it's worth taking the bolts out and arms off (toe and camber) and making sure the slots are clean.
Cheers,
Simon
It should be front and rear drop links for me.

I'd like to order a set of:
Front swaybar adjustable drop links KLC39 £66.96
for my Evo 7 GTA if they can be used with the standard front anti-roll bar, and if they can be fitted by Extreme.
Depending on when they are available and cash I may go for the full stage 1 setup, but at present I've only got enough for the links (which I hope will cure my front end knocking noise)

As we are nearing the end of the group buy can we assemble a full list of what is required and by who then i can e-mail Yob (MD) of Whiteline UK and check out supplies. I know he was air frieghting more products over due to the demand off the group buy. Then i can post up to everyone and let you know what is available and when. I will not post any lies just to get sales. Then we can take credit card details and let you know postage charges and then finalize the sale.
Thanks for all your support and interest in this group buy and you can be reassured that i will do my best to fulfill the demand.

nice piece of kit... just need it fitted now!

Mines 99% fitted.... just realised there's 2x 9mm spacers missing from the front droplink kit!.... it says on the packaging that it should include spacers, anyone know if they are or aren't suppose to be there
Cant finish the job until I know for sure!
Not actually attempted to fit mine yet, but the KLC002 rear kit I have contains four spacers.
The KLC39 front kit doesn't have any spacers included when the instructions lists 4 four.

Thanks for that John, I'll be on the phone asap :D

Does anybody know of an easy way to change the front anti roll bar on the 8 as it looks like you have to dismantle the sub frame. Any suggestions before I start.

Had a phone call from Extreme Motorsport today, they have dispatched the missing spacers for the front drop-links :D

oh right going for some big figures then, you have ecutek at the mo don't you ? where did you get that done ?
Went to WRC at Silverstone in one of the first group buys on the MLR, seemed a good outfit but quite a trek.
Steve
Hey Edd,
I've fitted a full set of powerflex bushes when I done the ARB's... altogether it's really tightened everything up, loads more responsive, steering's really sharp! :) Very pleased with the outcome! :D
Where did u get the Ap's?
Hi Evo ant, brought them from a chap off here called jon foz, from liverpool area, cost e £1350 inclu p & p, brand new.
Give him a pm, never know might have some more as he did say if i ever wanted parts could get them at good price.
Steve
Thanks Edd...... sounds a good price will have to look into that, could do with a set of those! :)
Looks like our TME's will have a similar setup  , let me know what u think when u've got the ARB's, bushes & brakes done!
Are u fiiting the poweflex engine mounts aswell?... only thing I found with them is there is a slight vibration when idling  .... but that doesn't bother me
Cheers,
Ant.
Hi ant, not doing the engine mounts but think they are in the box I got. Also got tein flex coilovers going on at the same time so should transform the car into something that handles well. I am also having it set up and corner weighted.
Steve
Good stuff Edd, u wont need to put up with the vibration then ;)
I've got the Tein Flex with EDFC, very good kit.... pleased with mine!
Ant, is the EDFC kit good, mine hasn't got it but can be brought for about £245-00. Do you know if it can be fitted later.
Steve
Steve,
Yeah, I think it's great idea... some may see it as a bit of a gimmik..... but it beats the hell out of having to get out of the car and go under the bonnet or in the boot to **** about with the settings. U just need to sit on ur arse and press a few buttons, job done.... alot easier to see how the setting affect the handling while ur driving along.
Yes, they can be installed afterwards without a problem.... thats another good thing about them.
Rear swaybar BMR65XZ £115.15
Front swaybar BMF52 £102.23
For me please matey for my 5.
These kits sound awesome! everyone had theirs ok or is there still issues?
Any pics of them fitted yet?

There are still issues, I ordered my stage two on the 21st December and have been promised the front arb about three times but still no sign  . They reckon whiteline were due an order this friday and I should get it by Tuesday. The cars in for work now so it had better turn up!!!
The rest of the kit came within two days of order!!
Steve
I have now spoken to Yob direct at Whiteline, I am not going to receive my front anti roll bar for another 14 DAYS  as you can see from my previous posts this will be SIX WEEKS from order!!!
The car is in bits waiting what was promised two weeks ago.
If anybody reads this and has the front arb for an evo 6 not being fitted yet could they please contact me on 07786894586, I can then send you mine when I get it as an exchange, will even pay postage both ways.
Steve

Steve
Can I still take advantage of this offer. I want all three kits for an IX.
Thanks,
Ben
