Very nice indeed. All the better for being in black too.
What suprises me though is that you bought another Evo at all. I know your a very enthusiastic driver and as such I figured that you might of gone for something rear wheel drive instead. You not tempted by say something like an M5?
What mods you planning on doing to your new toy anyway?

The shiny-ness is an obvious sign that he hasn't taken her out for a 'real' rip yet! ;)
Still, darn tasty...my kinda Evo. :D

Ants.. funny, i thought that it was a bit odd the red logo when i first looked at it, couldn't quite worked out why but obiovusly cos my subconcious knew it ahd never seen it before in red ! I think it looks real good though with the black.
Brown Paper Bag, Adrian... right ? How you doing. To be honest i deliberated months about what to get and drove a number of cars including the E46 M3 and went to see a few M5's as well. In teh end it was only the evo that i like ... everything else didn't really have that final desirability factor to make me pull up teh money. The BM's sure are nice cars but at the end of the day lack involvement and i couldnt quite see myself in one. Maybe one day.
I couldn't get inspired by any of the hatches and the scoobs dont do it for me neither. So it was either building a new caterham R400 or treating myself to a VII and then just hiring a caterham all next year for trackdays which worls out very very cheap and a lot less hassle (as opposed to owing my own caterham).
Having said that, i will probably get another caterham at some point.... (like when i sold my 6 i didn't really want to get rid of it) i am not through with caterhams yet.
As for mods... im not sure. Im very interested in the stroker kit .. .just my cup of tea in philosophy. But i dont really need that power & torque ... to be honest.. my little 75 bhp Audi A2 is a much fun as anything else.. its not totally about speed. Also, i dont want to try to focus on the evo as a speed machine... after the Superlight R *everything* is very slow, straight line, braking, corners etc.. And if i go that route with the evo i will have to go a long way to satisfy. I change cars quite a bit and usually dont like spending fortunes on them so i will see how i go ... maybe an exhaust and definitely some otehr alloys and slicks for the odd trackday. Maybe the AP brake kit as i think its the weakest part of eth car. Initially im just gonna sit back and see how into it all I get.
Why did you sell your TME btw ?

Hi Rich
Yeah it's me... still kicking around here :)
Not doing too bad. Had to let the TME go few weeks ago to raise some money to buy a peice of land. Was £20k short and tried every avenue going but just couldn't borrow any more so the Evo had to go. Thankfully I originally bought it for cash so as soon as it was sold I had the money I needed there and then. (I had till the end of August to come up with the reddies or lose the land)
Just about had enough left over to put a deposit down on the Civic Type-R. I hate buying cars on finance but at least I have got something half-decent to bum around in for the next year or two.
The Civic is actually suprisingly capable in the dry, bar the truly awful steering, but in the wet is the worst car I have ever had!
I miss the Evo like mad but long term I have made the right choice. I work for myself and this gives me a job for the next 18+ months. When the houses are all finally built and sold off I will be back behind of the wheel of something good... although I'm not sure it will be in an Evo. Really fancy having another Elise if I'm honest. I love Lotus cars so much.
Talking of which I nearly gave you a call a few months ago! I can't believe you let that 340r go so cheap! If the land deal had fallen through and I had been left with £20k cash to spend on a car again then you would of got that call!
I'm really suprised about what you say about lack of involvment in the M3 & M5... ultimate driving machine and all that. I've never driven either but you read the reviews and believe the hype etc.
Reminds me a bit of a conversation I was having with a biker a couple of weeks ago. He was saying about about how much faster his bike was from 0-60, 0-100 etc then any Evo and said to him "So your another of these muppets who think straight line speed is everything then?" Things got a bit heated and I left it alone but I get fekking ****ed off with people who think that way. To some people it's all about the traffic light grand prix, the right badge and big figures. They don't understand 'involvement' at all. This makes me so mad (I'm actually getting angry thinking about it right now at 6am!)
They totally miss the point though. Any **** can go fast in a straight line. Fun for me is about punting a car around a series of 'B' roads as fast as you safely can. The 'big figures' thing is nice for a while but it soon gets very boring if you don't throw some good corners into the recipe.
I undersand totally about what you say about the Audi A2. I've had some nice cars in the past and people think I'm crazy when I say "My mums Ford Ka is one of the biggest grin factor cars I have ever driven" but it's true.
Must admit that the Civic isn't the most inspiring car in world though. I test drove several cars in the £12k - £16k bracket before deciding on it and regard it as the best of a lacklustre bunch. It's actually a very capable car if you dare to push it hard (in the dry anyway) but I say 'dare' because the steering feedback is so poor that you are never really sure just hard you can push. The only way to learn is by gritting your teeth and hoping for the best!!!!
Little story for you....
A few days after getting the car I had a couple of friends around to watch a few DVD's. About 3am they decided it was time to go home so I gave them a lift cause they wanted to see what the car was like. We actually ended up going for a 40 mile hike in the end! The thing is, each roundabout we came to I pushed that little bit harder. In the end I was talking roundabout almost as quicky as I would of done in the Evo! It really suprised me what the car could actually do when pushed hard. It was great. There was no one about at that time of the morning, the roads were dry and we were looning about taking these roundabout at crazy speeds, time and time again! Big smiles :) :) :)
I learnt quite abit about the car that night but like I say you should really learn these things through what the car is telling you rather then taking a bend at what seems a reasonable speed, adding 20mph then hoping for the best!
Anyway better get ready for work I guess. Nice to see you around these parts again. I guess some people wonder why I still stick around but this place was home for me for a year and I'm kinda attached to it so normally pop my ugly head around the door at least a couple of times a week to see whats happening :)

Adrian,
good move with the land ... you gotta sort your investemnts and long term dosh out frist... then blow the rest :D
i never drove a CTR but my friend who was thinking of buying one said the same... its quite hard to feel teh limit through the car and that steering is terrible. But he said the urgency, engine, lack of roll, sharpness & gearbox were all good.
Believe you me the M3 has terrible steering .. worse than the regular 330ci sport IMO. Lovely engine and gorgeous interior but somehow i couldn't see myself in one, its not enthusiast enough, not that involving and more of a "fast 3 series" as opposed to a focsed drivers car like the evo. To be honest i deliberated for ages over what to buy. At one point i was going to get an evo and a new R400 but although i adore the high powered caterhams i was reluctant to spend a lot of money on one, or indeed, own another one cos they really are a means to an end on teh circuit. And 30k is an awful lot of money for a car you only use on teh track 10 times a year. I can hire one and do 10 trackdays for under 5k and that includes all tyres/maintenance/track insurance etc... Okay so i dont own the car and thats a psychological thing i'll have to get used to but its far cheaper and far far easier (the caterhasm tend to get fixed quite a lot).
So with the looks of the 7 massivley growing on me i decided to get one. I can do all my holidays and long journeys in it.. drive to teh track in it in comfort (driving to spa and back in the caterham with no windscreen was a fu**in nightmare) and also use it for a small number of trackdays... eps. wet airfield days :D
But i will miss the Superlight R when i eventually sell it. Its a phenomenal car and teh way you drive it with power on oversteer at your command etc.. is very satisfying. They way they turn in and dive for an apex make every other car (apart from my mates Forumla Ford) feel like a recalcitrant sack of potatoes... its that sub 500ks weight.
I am already thinking that maybe i should have got an RS (cos teh ayc/acd is annoying) but thing is i didn't want white and i wanted a bit of luxury in eth cabin as well.... i.e. a good road car.
If you get an elise again then you know where i am to help. By the time you buy, lotus should have another car of sorts out again ... i think they'll release something in geneva next year. Have to say, im a bit ****ed off with them... they're not teh company they used to be and have made some big mistakes in eth last few years IMO. Do test drive a caterham though ..... more fun than an elise, more exploitable a lot quicker and more frenzied but obviosuly have their limitations. Although the elises are better road cars and IMO some of teh best fun you can have on the road.... on the limit they are not enjoyable and sliding etc.., oversteer (in whatever guise) is simply not a natural part of teh driving experience. I wish lotus would start putting engines in the front...
