I've just had another (re-con) gearbox fitted in my car and it crunches 3rd if the engines revving higher than 4,000 - it sounded to me like the 3rd gear synchro - i spoke to the supplier who reckons cables that attach the gear lever to the box need adjusting??? the garage that fitted the box don't think the cables are adjustable - does anyone know before i give the wrong person a mouthful??

Would try turning the cables at the gear box end half a turn, this will put some tension on the cable so when it's in the middle 3rd/4th it may make it feel better but if it is deff a crunch and not klicky its the box.

gear box is out of the car as we speak. it used to cruch in 3rd gear if you try to change gear above 6000revs. :(. i has been doing it for a while now, but hopefully will be sorted out soon.

spoke to gearbox builder yesterday and he said that the 3rd gear synchros and other bits and pieces or also damaged due to that. so it was not just a straight forward synchro change. nonetheless they they recieved the gearbox in wednesday and sent it over this morning. one turn around is not bad me thinks.

lets see how it goes after that!

Hi Sam

Are they replacing the,Gear,Hub,Sleave and blocker for 3rd ?
The reply on the gear linkage is in no way a cure for grunching in 3rd just some thing to try b4 he has to take the box out AGAIN.
