View Full Version : Just fitted a Cusco twin plate...
Fitted on Sunday, what we call a backyard job here in the States. I think I'm becoming a pro at changing Evo clutches, well, at least on a 5. ;)
First Impressions: Engagement is a bit rougher than stock, takes a bit gettin used to, and the pedal is a bit shorter (although to remedy this problem is to adjust pedal).
Now, it's a bit noisy when pressing the clutch pedal down, sort of like a noise you get from a dry clutch on a motorcycle (like the ducatis). Is this a normal noise? The noise is not terrible, but noticeable when engaging it.
Other than that, clutch is absolutely amazing.

the noise is like clanging sound right? tats the characteristics of a twin plate clutch. :)
but how heavy is the clutch? i tried my friend's cusco twin plate, and it was too heavy for my liking, i think i might just get cramps driving it in town
but launching yer car with a twin plate rocks :)
Yep, clanging noise it is. Actually, it sounds pretty cool.
I don't feel the pedal being too heavy. Maybe I'm just heavy footed, and a big guy. :D Haven't launched it yet, will do soon.
Just driven my car with a newly installed Cusco twin plate tonight, stalled it in reverse once, and that was it, seems fine to me, bite not as bad as I thought it would be, very nice though!

Dont you like that? I just shortened mine! :)
i have this too as i said before jigga just havent fitted it yet, whats it like driving about in the city
Claudius, I actually enjoy the shorter pedal also. ;) Just gotta get used to downshifting cause with the shorter pedal, it's harder to control the decelaration during downshifts. Tends to hit (feels like the old fuel cut syndrome, well, almost).
Moses, clutch feels great. Actually, yesterday caught some heavy traffic coming back from work and no probs at all. I did also stall it on reverse once, but you soon get the hang of it. You'll not be disappointed. Best money I've spent on my car as of yet. Like I stated earlier, heavier pedal engagement, but not as bad as some might say. Very much manageable.
If I can put up with all the noises, pops, etc. my car makes, I can definetely take yet another noise, now from the clutch.
I took pictures of the job I did. Will be posting them very soon.
regards,
LEE
cheers jigga :) only thing is it supposed to last 20000 miles with normal driving and under 10000 if your thrashing it all the time im glad i got mines second hand :D only done 500 miles yipee still in good nick and its bloody heavy to pick, nearly lost my finger cozof those teeth thingy's on it

Try to give it a little gas before clutching back in. :)
hello
i have got he hks twin plater which i believe is very similar. one thing i have learnt with it is heal and toe
when down shifting i have to blib the throttle or otherwise it judders. i don 't automatically now to every car i drive :D
the rattling of the plates is worst in a cold morning, after that it does not do it anymore.
it used to do it everytime you dipped the clutch when the it was new, now only when cold. first thing in the morning.
just had the clutch out to get the gearbox repaired, i have had it for over 10kmiles with manytrack days done. and it looks almost brand new. just fitted a new release bearing as a matter off course though.
