Can any of you recommend a good damper/strut only upgrade? I can't lower my car's height as the roads I take my car too will scrape of the entire underside!

Coil-overs are a no-no as well, as most readily affordable ones have a short-stroke damper and automatically lower the car.

I want to be able to use the OE springs before I get lower, stiffer springs.

Next, I heard that one of the posters here (Was it Colin?) had added additional spot welds to increase chassis rigidity. My E4 is 5 years old and was wondering if this would be a good idea to do so as to increase chassis rigidity and help ease metal fatigue by having more weld-points share loads. Does anyone have pics of these additional welds done to his/her car?

TYVM in advance! :)

Hi there

you can buy a set of fully adjustable suspension without changing the ride height. But you'll have to look elsewhere than Japan.

You can get Proflex or Öhlins with the same ride height as standard, or even higher!

Hi Claudius!

I saw your pix before while in Japan with all the stuff you bought for your car. (Isn't that freaky, I know how you look like and you don't know who I am?! :) )

Kidding aside, DMS and OHLINS would probably cost half the current market value of my E4 right now, and I don't think I can even come close to using their maximum potential anyway with my current driving skill. :)

I've seen GAB and KYB dampers for the car with damping adjustability and cost only about a third of most coil-overs. I was hoping for anyone with experience using these in their own cars. Well, guess not.......................... :(

No replies yet regarding the additional spot welds in the car? :)

! That's right! :D

I'm sure if you looked better, you would have posted your pics a long time ago :D ;) LOL

I didnt buythat much stuff, though? Just 2 cams and an oil cooler (ok, and a few accessories :D)

You can pick up Proflex for GBP 2200 approx. That's not cheap, true. You may find used reconditioned ones at half that price, maybe check with the rally places?

The Jap stuff is hard, too hard, and probably low as well. It's good for dry good tarmac like some tracks, nothing else. And it will make your car fall apart sooner!

Regarding spot welds, a good idea would be to seam weld the upper front suspension plate, that takes a lot of stress. But remember that when you reinforce that, you'll weaken the rest of the car. That's why I decided to have the WHOLE car seam welded. But that's expensive, too.

You just cant get it right and cheap. You can get it cheapER and right, but not cheap and right. It's just the way it is...

Hey Claudius, cheap shot about me posting my pic sooner if I looked beter! :) LOL! And about a few accessories, well now few is a relative term then I guess. :)

True about getting it cheaper (than usual ) and right, but NOT cheap and right. :( Sigh, there goes my future son's college tuition...... :)

By the way, saw a set of Ralli-Art ride-adjustable dampers made by KYB. The white bodied ones. Anyone know if these are good?
