View Full Version : Nurburgring meet!
There is talk from our European friends about a meet and drive on the Nurburgring sometime at the start of next year, current thought is maybe March or April, I'm planning on going along and what's more I'm willing to arrange everything from a UK point of view, if you are interested let me know.
Current people talking about going are

The plan is to go over for a weekend (1 or 2 nights?), have a good drive and lots of beers.
This should be a great chance to drive on one of the best tracks in the world as well as a good social event.
When/if there is enough interest I'll find out about costs but expect something in the region of
£100 for the chunnel return
£40-50 for a double room per night
£150|PLS| for track time (no idea how much the ring will cost)
There is also a thread on <a href|EQU| http://www.lancerforums.com/forums target|EQU| _blank ><!--autohttp-->http://www.lancerforums.com/forums</a><!--autohttp--> in General that is worth keeping an eye on
Ryan
Great idea!
Should be lots of fun. Scooby Mike will come as well. And some of the racers of the Recaro Evo 7 racing team!
Would also be interesting to see Blade's machine on the Ring!!!
yeah me too, blade you gonna drag your ass over then?
Ryan,
I'm definitely interested in late March/April, early March I'm skiing so if I haven't broken any bones I'll come along!
Could be interested, depends on:
1) If it conflicts with the EVO shootout on 16th March
2) If it conflicts with SPA (late march/early April)
Never done the ring, but fancy it - though would probably prefer to spend a week there :D :D :D
SPA is a must though.
Nobody should worry too much about not knowing the Ring. We can help all of you to learn the basics fairly quickly plus some special tricks in some sections as well. It should be a lot of fun. There is nothing like the Ring: afterwards, every other track seems boring! The hard core Ring racers already complain when they have to drive on the GP (F1) section of the Ring: they say it is for sissies.
Some of racers of our team (Recaro Evo 7 Team from the endurance series on the Ring) will be there as well.
Blade,
Since we have so much time to arrange this I'm sure we can avoid Spa and the evo shootout :)

I'm certainly interested in heading out to the 'Ring (depending on dates and amp; work commitments).
Wheeltorque are doing a big 2 day bash at the ring in April....
blade any more info? <a href|EQU| http://www.wheeltorque.com target|EQU| _blank ><!--autohttp-->http://www.wheeltorque.com</a><!--autohttp--> wasn't all that helpful :D

Wheeltorque has announced dates for the big events of 2002. Advance booking now
Wheeltorque has some excellent dates lined up for Nurburgring and Spa for 2002.
Nurburgring 2002 Festival
The Nurburgring 2002 Festival will take place over Easter weekend Sun Mar 31-Mon Apr 1. Track time will be £575 for the two days and there are 120 rooms available at the Dorint. Prices for accommodation and travel will be announced shortly after the New Year. If your planning on organising you own accommodation then the guys at Wheeltorque recommend that you do so soon because the whole area is likely to get very booked up.
Although it is a Bank Holiday weekend there shouldn’t be too much trouble with ferries since most Wheeltorquers will be travelling out on the Saturday and returning on Tuesday ie one day after peak travel each way.
Spectacular Spa 2002
Summer dates are v-difficult to come by at Spa so Wheeltorque have done well to grab July 1/2 for the 2002 Spa Spectacular. Of course it is almost impossible to guarantee the weather at Spa at any time of the year but July has to be the most reliable month elements wise. Only 150 and places will be available for each day.
Track time for the two days is £595 and hotel and travel prices will again be announced shortly after New Year.
Autumn Blast 2002
Autumn Blast will follow this years format of two days at Spa and two days at Nurburgring. Dates have yet to be announced but it will be in the first week of November. Two three and four-day packages will be available and track time will work out at £195 per day if doing the four days. Accommodation and travel will again be announced in the New Year.
Advanced registrations are being taken now on the Wheeltorque site www.wheeltorque.uk.com
Thanks for the info Blade.
N.Ring, how does this compare with your experiences of cost etc, not sure who is arranging the track itself, is MichealK? or maybe yourself?

The Nurburgring web site hasn't got the schedule for next year published as yet so the others are waiting for that before arranging dates but I’ll suggest the Wheeltorquers anyway.
Just for anyone else that has thought about doing this and decided not too, I'm definitely not a regular track day driver (at the moment) but I'm going anyway! There will be people around to help you learn the track and gives tips etc, I fully expect to be the slowest car around on the day but don't really care as I’ll be able to drive on the Nurburgring :D

Ryan
Just so you know, N.Ring says that this is what you pay for the ring.
You pay DM 22,00 per lap. Or ca. DM 1030,00 a year for unlimited laps (that is what I do).
We'll sort things out when the date are up on the web site
Ryan
Ryan
I fancy doing the Ring and amp; possible Spa as well !
Please confirm the dates as early as possble and amp; I`ll book it up , fancy a blast with the likes of Andre around the ring :)
cool dave welcome to the mad house, talk to Blade about Spa, I don't know if anyone else is planning on going there.
ryan
dave, spa is 1/2 July (look at my post above).
Sounds cracking - open pit too!
Blade
Are you driving the car to these events or transporting it ?
I`ll tow mine on a trailer and amp; take along some spares and some pit crew if possible ! :)

Drive probably, with a mate in his van being pit crew and carrying spares :)
Being half german, I think I'd be neglecting my national duty if I didn't at least consider coming along and helping out with ordering beer/food etc. ;)
I'll have to chat to 'er indoors first though ...
And I'd have to get you all (especially Claudius and MichaelK) to promise not to take the **** out of my car.
Ian.
I went last year with wheeltorque to nurburgring and it was very well organised
and good value.
I have already pre registered to go again in april
If you are thinking of going thats the way, it's only £1000 ish all in
cough, but a grand all in is a lot of cash when you can do it for under half that.....
cough, cough
Yes a grand is alot BUT
Go on the ring during an open session with the motorcycles standard German boy racers
and the bus that does the historic tour. No thanks I value my evo a little better than that.
Plus wheeltorque give support in the event of a smash, its a long way home. If you have not been to the
ring before its not very forgiving, if you spin you will hit something, I am happy to pay the extra.
Notwithstanding if you guys get it together I would probably come for the blast as well.
Andy
I am intyerested as well. Any body has more info how to register to all these events that have been mentioned? there is a certain lack of info here in Sweden. But do count me in for Nurboring, probabely will come with two more friends with evos.
A good friend of mine has done the ring several times with Wheeltorque and on his own. He reckons you should go direct. Yes, there is a bus etc., but you know when it goes out, so can easily avoid it. The only other thing to avoid is locals in their Opel Kaddetts who spend all their lives going around the ring, sliding all over!
Hey, lets forget about Spa and Wheeltorque for the moment!!
We want to meet in March /April, depending on the 2002 Ring schedule (this will come out soon and then we should book the hotel). The meet will happen on a weekend it is open for everyone. This is much more fun! The risk of being hit by another car is very slim: the track is so long, traffic is quite spread out. I have done ca. 150 laps this year without any problems; once I got passed in the rain by one of those wild Opel Kadets (700 Kg, 200hp!).
So, as soon as we have those dates, we should plan it. It will be great fun. The hotel we are thinking about is typical cosy German. The Quattro GmbH test drivers always stay there as well.
Just my opinion.
I went to the Ring for the first time this year. I've only done two track days before (in the UK) and i am not an expert driver (i like to use the word sh*t ). The two days were Sunday/Monday (the Belgium Grand Prix weekend) and the Sunday was absolutely packed. I would not go on the Ring at the weekend unless you are a good driver with some Ring knowledge. Don't get me wrong, the experience was something else (plenty of cars spinning, a Golf on it's roof, being passed by some local bikers at 150, 160, 170, ....who knows?) and the weekend is great for spectating. However, the Monday was a lot quieter and less busy on-track. Much better for beginners or those of us who don't enjoy having to pull over after every corner.
Can you organise it yourself? - definitely, we did and everything went smoothly. Would i spend a grand going? - no way, you can do it for a LOT less. Would i go at the weekend? - not if i could help it (see above). Will i go again? - absolutely, at least three times next year. (Would love to meet up with N Ring and others from the board) Will i be going to this meet? - just try and stop me!
The point of all this? Just ignore my message and follow this link:
<a href|EQU| http://www.nurburgring.org.uk target|EQU| _blank ><!--autohttp-->http://www.nurburgring.org.uk</a><!--autohttp-->
This (totally excellent) site is run by a guy, Ben Lovejoy, who visits the Ring several times each year (in his MX5). We obtained all of our information from here, including some wicked directions. If you intend to go to the Ring, please read through his warnings and also visit the whoops page. Do not let this put you off. Just make sure that you go with the correct attitude and you WILL enjoy this place.
See you there next year.

I'll certainly be up for a trip (or three) next year, probably make the first one in May with the usual mob (Esprit, Exige, Evo, Lancer and Mi'Beast) . Really want to hang fire until the weather sorts itself out as camping is the best way to do it...
I'll keep an eye out for Evos, it's always nice to see folks there.

From the Rules :
Racing is prohibited. This includes attempting to set speed records with individual vehicles.
It also says there German traffic law applies, that there is no run off areas but only armco. Sounds like a perfect place to crash your car or drive slowly.
Go slow on the Ring?? Stay within your limits and you will have an exellent time. Can't wait till it gets a bit warmer again.
I have been stripping my 6 over the last couple of days. It is great fun, finding out what you can remove from your car to make it lighter. The safety-cage will ad weight again though.
Happy new year to all the evo guys and girls!!
I'd be up for a trip to the ring.
Christ, you lucky (and I assume rich) b@stards! :)
My only experience of the Ring was in the company Vauxhall a good few years back, did the road bit of Spa on the same holiday but it could hardly be called the real motorpsport experience in a Cavalier now could it?
Still made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up though, and watching a 911 slide all over the place trying to get by an E30 M3 at the village at the north end (where the track goes over the road) actually made me whoop out loud!

Count me in.
I visit the Ring several times a year, one time more is even more fun.
One round is € 12,-, 5 rounds € 48,-

Ryan
Just sold my 6 but would still like to come to nurburgring.
Will bring my 220 bhp westfield on a trailer which should be a good match on the ring for the 6. Any objections. Plus I will be with a trailer should anybody be unfortunate. this may be worth something.
Andy,
The more the better

Talked to our Belgian friend Jan yesterday, it seems the ring is an awesome experience, even if you cant go fast because you dont know it and will not be able to learn it within a few days.
So when should we go?
Claudius, are you on drugs??
Don't take when we are at the Nürburgring! I am glad you are coming now though!! As soon as the new NRing schedule is out, we will set the date.

Absolutely. You will have to come and ruin your country's citizens' reputation of slow drivers! And before you start telling us you dont have to prove anything: yeah you do! ;)

You know both I'd do almost everything to come to the Ring. Once you've driven there you'll come back, it's like an addiction.
Cheers
Mike
Looking forward to the meet! Have not been on the Ring this year at all. Three weeks ago, I got stuck in the snow/ice on the 'off-camber' parking lot at Brünchen in my Audi. No winter tires. Just made it out again, thanks to quattro.
Hope to get at least 30 laps in before the meet!! Will need it to keep up with Mr. Öhlins 'suspensions'.
hmm, I might not be able to make the 2nd looks like I have to go watch my cousin get married, is this date set in stone?
R
Them cousins! I propose we still meet. And meet again and again!
I am going this weekend to the Ring to do my first laps for the year. Anybody out there already as well?
It was fun again. 5 laps: need new synchro for 5 th gear. I will be out again this weekend (both days), especially sunday should be fun as our whole team will come out with an Evo 7 to do some practice.
Anybody there as well? It will probably be wet, so no motorcycles!

There is a large Scooby contingent going over on May Bank Holiday Weekend. Yes it will be busy, but we normally go from the Friday til Monday.
I find it much more fun when there is a mixture of machinery on the track, as anyone that has seen my video, 'Cossiekiller at The Ring', will know. :)
Just drive it like you would any other B-road and you'll be fine. It is undoubtedly the greatest circuit for driving I have ever been on.
If anyone wants a copy of my video you can get it from http://shop.sidc.co.uk . It may help you become aquainted to the track, although don't rely on it too much!!!! ;)

What date is this Bank Holiday weekend?
When a lot of people meet it's allways fun, I'll be there, just as on 2-3 March.
See you then!
btw, I visited the Ring last sunday but missed Mr. N.Ring.
Mr. N.Ring only went on saterday (he was lousy)! Sunday family day.
This coming weekend I will be there both days. Saterday wet practice, sunday Recaro Raeder Racing Team practice in the Evo 7.
See you all on the 2 and 3 of March. If anyone needs help with hotels or something else, let me know.
Two people have contacted me about doing a dyno session at Boemanns (www.boemanns-motorsport.de) on the 2nd. If more people are interested we can maybe do a group deal. Let me know. They can also do lambda testing (Claudius!!!)
Should we all stay in the same hotel? Should be more fun.
As I already told Gerrit, I will be there on saturday the 2nd and dyno my E6 with some mods at Boemanns, hopefully with wideband lambda and exhaust temp test, have an appointment with them at 13.30h.
May decide to stay over night if the people I meet are nice........
René
So who is coming now?
It seems some from NL and B. Michel K. will there as well.
Who is coming from the UK? And Monaco??
I will be at Boemanns tomorrow at 12:30. So Rene, we will meet there.
Sunday, Andre and his dutch friends are coming. We will meet that day at the Ring at 12:00. Weather looks good: a bit cold, so ice in the mornings (Bergwerk!!). But dry.
Scooby Mike's back is still not working, so nobody from CH.
See you all there!
I'm off to a wedding this weekend :(

Enjoy and take car
See ya
Mike
I'm going to be there on saturday, arriving in the afternoon and staying overnight to have an early day at the ring on sunday. 3 other guys in EVO's are joining me.
