View Full Version : Oulton Park 19th December, Bookatrack
A bunch of us are going to Oulton Park on the 19th December. So far Droid, SuperL, Simon7Extreme, Wazzuptommi, my mate Mark and of course me and my beast. Should be fun and slippy :D The legendary Ed Moore will be there and you can get a spin in my car with him (not too many though, as I want some track fun!)
Steve Eggar (my superb mechanic) will be there too, if you want to talk techy EVO.
Should be a good larf and a great way to end the year before xmas.
check out <a href|EQU| http://www.bookatrack.com target|EQU| _blank ><!--auto-->http://www.bookatrack.com</a><!--auto-->
I must be tired - of course I meant Steve Hagger!
I was thinking of someone else while typing! Oh well.... Sorry Steve!
Hello Everybody
I might be attending as Jenny from RC has been chasing me and its on my local turf.
Just need to arrange with my business partners it is a need before the staff party.
I believe that there is going to be a few there?
Blade looking forward to seeing your car it seems to be talked a lot about on the forum.
Dragon, see you there mate. There are still places. Simon, SuperL, Wazzup.. etc. when are you booking? I know you have done the hotel, what about the trackday?!?!?
What u done to yours Dragon??
My mate Ed Moore will be there too, so if you want a fantastic drive, he will take u out in my beast :D
Hi Blade
There appears to be two dragons on board I'm the lower case one not the Capped.
I live in Cheshire so I will not be in a hotel.
My car has been modded by RC Developments I have done stage 2 so far which should take it to 350bhp.
Not as quick as yours yet!
I need to book the day,I need to arrange with RC to have mine in for a checkover before the Trackday and to find out who else is going.
Look forward to meeting you on the 19th

Hi Mellow look forward to meeting you,I will wave as I drive past:)
Regards Barry
Hey Barry,
We never agreed to exchange cars for the day ;)
Whoever laps who owes the other a coffee then :D
Wazuptommi
09-12-2001, 17:23
Hi Mellow,I have never driven Oulton before so I will get the coffees in :)
OK.......I'll buy the halftime sarney's :D
You would need a Radical to lap someone at Oulton!
Anyway, you boys know that racing is strictly prohibited :D :D :D
I will be just practising lines anyway... don't know Oulton at all, and I bet it will be REALLY cold!
Open pit though - intend to do at least 150 miles that day on track.
Blade, if you intend on doing 150 miles, you had better check whether they have their petrol pumps working there, otherwise its very easy to get lost, trying to find the nearest petrol station, as we discovered!
Ants, don't worry mate - got a pit crew with Petrol cans and everyfink! There is petrol on site according to the Autosport guide, whether it is open is another thing. I will get a list of local petrolio stations before I go. My crew can go look for it whilst I am lapping :D
Posy git!!
(the pumps wern't open last time, and because its up north I don't think they get much fuel delivered!!)
Not a problem for Fuel there are 2 Shell stations close by one in Sandiway and amp; the other in Winsford both have Optimax.
See you soon
Dale
Ants, comes with spending a ****load of money with PE! They like to help me break the car on a trackday so that I can give them more money to fix it!
Truly, I think they like seeing their baby go fast round the track, and they like a good ####up the night before!
Must admit it makes me look like a ####er though :D
Still, I happily share them out on the day with other needy folk (incase bits drop off your car!) :)
Last time I went out on my own (Croft) the sodding pressurised air intake tube kept on being pulled off, and it was a bitch to fix! I had Steve from PE on the mobile whilst I was head under the bonnet!
LoL! Had to be towed off Croft 4 times before I sorted it!
Ok, Droid, Me, Ed Moore, Steve and amp; Dave (from PE) are all booked in the Rookery, and I have booked a table at 9pm. Does anyone else want to join us on the same table?? Let me know who and I will change the booking!
Otherwise, see u in the bar!

OOOOHHHH! Got some new toys to try out!
1) My camera mount has arrived for the roll cage, so video, here I come!!
2) The carbon extreme side sills are on the car!
3) The cusco 4 point lower brace is on, and uprated cusco rear anti-roll bar. No time to fit the front one :(
4) The front extreme splitter MIGHT be on the car if there is time to fit and paint it!!!
5) Shorter ratio gearbox is on.
6) Second set of wheels with full slicks, not just the Dunlop R's - got some road wheels too if it is wet!
Just need to go out and buy a video camera now :(
Simon7extreme
14-12-2001, 19:11
Blade
Paint the front splitter? Isn't it carbon? if so, I suspect it would look far tastier left natural .
So, are these your Christmas presents or are there more to come? And if they are Chrimbo pressies, can I have the address of your Santa please :D :D
Blade,
Just need to go out and buy a video camera now
You've got mail ...

Erm......did I mention the P1's really a sport......:D
Cannon 450i seems an excellent all round vid/camera, just out in last few weeks...I looked into it quite deeply, cost @ circa £799 !

Hey Guys..hope you all have a Top Day...looks like i wont be able to make it down :( sure i'l be told all about it tho!!
Have a good one...be gentle on mellow!!!
t_m
Mellow - yeh, the canon did look good. I already have a firewire capture card and software as the missus has a Sony PC100 (and won't lend me it!!!!)
I got a JVC GR-DV157EK. Discontinued model, but has DV in/out, 2.5 LCD screen, 520 line res, 800,000 pixel CCD, night scope, image stabiliser - all the features you would expect. £599 incl. bag, tape and tripod! Now that is a reasonable bargain - and believe or not, from Dixons!!!
Also a big bigger (though still only 0.6kg) - looks more sturdy than these pocket hand jobbies (fnaarrr!) that look like they would break after one lap!
Can you believe that a canon dealer REFUSED to sell me a camcorder when I explained it was 4 track use! His loss....!

I remember you I'm sure you have that wicked 370bhp scoob.....didn't you try following me round Donnington in October at speeds you never thought possible :D

Have heard Mellow is a bit of a shrinking violet and gets a bit of a complex if his car is surrounded by EVO's ;)
deadscoob.......**** off ;) .......but your'e quite correct.....gulp :(
deadscoob
19-12-2001, 15:28
Looks like he didn't have a complex after all :)
Went out with Mellow only twice, but I think at the time the only car that wasn't reeled in double quick was the Ralliart car.....
Not all Scoobs don't handle as well as EVOs it seems ;) :D
Good day, some lovely cars there, 'specially Blades, that Ralliart - all the 7s basically looked sweet :D
Theres a Donington day on the 30th - maybe some of you lot should come up?
I didn't have a good day really :(
Firstly, it was so greasy, the Dunlops were devoid of all grip - Ed was skilled enough to tank it still despite lack of grip (though told me to shut the #### up while driving as he really had to concentrate!) - the few times my car was seen going fast was when Ed was driving it. I bought a second set of wheels from Ian Smith, which he kindly bought up today, so quickly ordered some S02's to be delivered to the track! They finally came at 2.30, so the last hour was spent with some grip :)
The biggest problem was some weird mechanical one, which we couldn't track down. It basically was a really harsh shunt in the driveline when lifting - didn't matter how gently you eased off, it felt like a major lift off - making it very hard to drive smoothly, and very unnerving. The other odd thing was despite the boost being fine, it felt like the power couldn't get to the wheels. My prime suspect is the clutch, possibly one of plates is sticking, but it is impossible to tell on the track. Of course Ed got round this by never lifting off :D - but I couldn't do that on a circuit I didn' know at all! Great circuit, but ####ing greasy - would be good on a dry day.
To top the day off, my rear springs have dislocated themselves for some reason - unknown at the moment. I think it happened early on in the day, which could explain why it was a little skittish. All in all, not a good day for me, but at least Ed got a few fast runs in the morning.
Lots of Evos there, most I have ever seen at a non MLR trackday! Lots of locals - suppose the proximiting to Warrington and Dudley helps!
Great to put some faces to names. Cheers to Droid, Simon7Extreme, SuperL, Evo Knievel, Wazzuptommi and everyone else (sorry, memory gone!)
Thanks too to Steve and Dave from PE, Ed Moore. Would have been even less enjoyable if they were not there.
Couldn't believe how many Ralliart bods were there with Jamie Davies and the Extreme S! It was like a pit crew!
Simon7Extreme - your car is very nice, very nice indeed - and SuperL. Completely changes my view of the 7.
And as for Droid's M3 - very, very fast indeed. More than capable of keeping pace with Simon and me.
Oh, funny point! On the way up yesterday, Simon, Droid and I pulled in to get petrol north of Birmingham. They looked a bit white (they had been following me). I asked what was wrong, and they suggested we drive a bit slower -turns out that my digital speedo was a bit inaccurate (read about 40mph less than we were doing) - won't say what we were doing, but it was alot! I just thought it was my new gearbox that made it seem faster :D
I suggested they take point instead of me :D
Hi All
A good day was had, nice to put a few faces to Handles. Blade your car does look quite impressive did notice it was not preforming as well as what I thought it would.
I thought RalliArt had bought the entire works crew they did look nice in there Jackets:)
The Extreme S looked good with those brakes.
Russell hope you enjoy your Warrender Stealth 7 It looks good to me.
A message for Graham and amp; Mellow I am thinking about Artic or wide body Evo maybe next time you need to catch me up sooner:)
Thanks also to Bookatrack , Clive@RC for working all night hope you sleep well tonight.
dragon, yeh, it was strange. Weird thing was it was ok on the way home, hitting 1.9 bar - still with the shunt, but without the hesitation. Odd thing was, it was fine two weeks ago at Donnington, and the only thing that has happened is the new gearbox being fitted. Could be a fuelling issue - maybe dirty injectors. At one point, I put my foot down, and it just seemed to choke and not go anywhere. It was quite disturbing, and not at all how it normally behaves. Never had any problems before, so I guess it is only fair to have some! Shame they all happened today!
I was not quick either, just couldn't get to grips with the circuit whilst trying to counter the shunt and lack of grip (before the tyres went on). Oh well, plenty more days to come. Just hope PE can sort the problem out.... :(
Only three of us - Toney, Leon and me!
Good day and no problems - too cold for messing with cars...
There were lots of other Ralliart jackets - which made it look like there were more of you I guess! Definitely too cold. Some parts of the track just didn't seem to improve during the day, particularly Druids.
Druids was sooo slippy. The little rise on the entrance never helps especially in the wet - I had a VERY big moment there today - Hope somebody got it on camera!
As you know that was my first track outing in my car and I am very very pleased with it's performance.
It's always nice when you can drive them home after a track day like today in one (undented) piece!
How many Lotus' were there?!
How much power did that GT2 have?!
LOL ..... @ dragon ;)
Great day, great cars, Blade's especially......I can honestly see why people rave about your marque.
Greasy in the morning, dry line after lunch, full slicks by mid afternoon, pushed to the 9/10ths of the limits,
Loved the Integrale, s'pecially when pushing it and seeing it twitch ;) Some fast Elises, and the yellow caterham bike thingy.
Donnington 30th December anyone ;)
Regards
Chris (who'd like more power now !)
Yep, a fine day had by (nearly) all. Kudos to RC getting their demo buffed up on-time, hope you sleep more next time lads (no arms up)! Almost seemed to suck up the track as it pounded onto the start/finish straight! Thanks due to all parties for the effort in bringing their cars oop norf for us to look over!
Looking forward to another meet, hopefully certain cars will have the gremlins cured and we'll be able to see them all getting some decent un-hampered laps in.
see you all next time,
p.s. anyone needing a new front pipe for a 5, heard they're on back order 'til Jan.

Yes it was a good day, sorry you had problems Tony,It was a shame that Ralliart left when the track started to dry out,the RC Demo car would have blown The Extreme S into the weeds it was awsome without a doubt the quickest car on the day,its going to take some beating and the Warrender Evo 7 370 was staying with the Extreme and close to passing it when the session was red flagged,I think they avoided going out with the RC Car because they didnt want to lose face. All those Red Rally coats ..........Clive at RC and Simon at Warrenders are very quick drivers and more than capable of taking on the proffessionals they dont have to employ race drivers to do there driving for them I like them no bull**** true ,they walk the walk dont just talk the talk.It was good to see Simon out there in his Extreme .hope to see more of you on the track Simon.
Hi Chris (Mellow) Good to meet you your car is very impressive as is your driving look forward to meeting you again,it was good to see you giving the Evos a good run for there money,
I loved the conditions very slippy but fun,I went out with D Jack as passenger in the afternoon after I had learnt the track in the morning ,and we were sliding and drifting on worn S01's it was great passed 9 cars in 17 laps the car was great ,many thanks to RC for setting it up for me on Monday ,next year its 380bhp the Cusco suspension which will be fitted second week of Jan and AP Brakes, cant wait for the new season .Nice to meet Ant(nice guy) Simon without his Evo 4 ,Franco, droid and his new M3 very impressive, and any one else I may have missed, and thanks for your company on Tuesday night Tony look forward to the next meet:)
Well, I was trying to be subtle but I have to agree with Barry, that RC Demo had to have been the fastest of the day by far, and solid as well. Shame it suddenly got quiet on the track before the slicks came out!;)
Simon7extreme
20-12-2001, 08:11
Strange, I thought the fastest thing out on the track was the GT2. Very well driven too. Although timing was clearly not allowed, by counting 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds etc ;) it was possible to tell that in the morning the Porsche was about .5 second faster than the next car, which was an Evo. As mentioned elsewhere, the one thing that ruined the day for me was the macho, testosterone fuelled behavior of some Evo owners, particularly aimed at people driving cars tuned by the competition . At least the one who didi it to me span 2 corners later. Luckily I had left enough gap after his agressive driving so that I could miss him. However, some of the behavior witnessed is what leads to accidents, particularly in such slippery conditions.

20-12-2001, 08:44
I didn't see any real bad driving - although a bit more perception (or using the mirrors) wouldn't do some people any harm :)
Was very impressed with Chris's driving - very very smooth and reassuring as a passenger - but still blindingly quick.
May have to let him have a go in mine next time :D
Simon7extreme
20-12-2001, 09:00
In general, I agree. The overall standard of driving on the day was very good. Some unusual cars as well, BMW Compact and was it a Fiat Uno? There was even an MPV out there at one time. However, for some reason 2 different people came over to me when I was looking at Evos in the pit lane and asked which w~~~~r was driving a particular Evo because it is meant to be overtaking by concent and he forced me onto the grass . Now, these guys may not have been using mirrors but to slow down for a short bit of one lap until the person becomes aware of you seems to make sense to me, if only for your own safety. There were also 2 Elise drivers who did similar things, driving in convoy . The way they past Blade was such that he was unaware that there were 2 of them and he nearly took out the second one!!
deadscoob
20-12-2001, 11:13
If that happens then you should have a word with the marshalls - get them to have a word with them and if it happens again they should be asked to leave.
I know most of us have been guilty of a little red mist from time to time, but forcing cars onto the grass etc isn't on - ****s like that can end up ruining it for everyone.
Now I'll get off me soapbox :)

With 2 threads going on this, please see my reply on the other 1.
Simon,
Just for general interest really.....the GT2 was a quick car, but not quick enough..... unofficially and according to two seperate spectators who have mailed me, myself and the white RC Development's car matched the same lap times and we were without doubt the fastest lapping cars out there ! the GT2 came quite a way down the list :D
The Ralliart car was 3rd with the silver Warrender car 2nd.......just out of interest ;)

20-12-2001, 13:36
Although I think it's fair to say, if the GT2 was driven properly, it would've left everyone for dead.

Barry,
If you lot struggled with a Scoob, I think a GT2 would be too much...
;) ;) ;)
Its funny how these scooby drivers keep putting down evo owners, like on scooby net, Mellow saying he 'had everything off' on the day, and forgot to mention RC developments car, when talkin about the day to his own kind on scooby net.. Do scooby drivers have to time and time again prove to us how good there cars are? We know how good they are, thats why we buy evo's! :)
Over and out!

20-12-2001, 17:03
Well said Chris,
Dead Scoob,I love a bit of friendly rivalry, but the Scoob was not anywhere close to the RC car ,and was not out with me in the afternoon, it was in the morning when I was poodling round learning the circuit.Chris is a nice guy and a good driver but .....lets wait till next time and maybe you could join us.What do you drive?:)
Simon7extreme
20-12-2001, 17:46
Mellow
I suspect it depends at what point you timed the cars! And we all know that is not the point of track days. The timing done that I know about was in the morning. Have to say that once you got the slicks on, you were flying. Very impressive. Don't get upset by some of the c##p here. Anybody trying to be even a little objective could see how fast you were. I would totally support the idea that at times you were the fastest car on the track, including when the top Evos were out. I heard some very positive comments about your driving from the professional racers who were there. If there are people on this site who cannot recognise that, so be it.
However, I think that you have been very OTT on Scoobynet. What are you trying to prove to them? As for your comments about the Ralliart car, you should beat it. It is a road car not built for the track! Your car is clearly built for the purpose, just like Blade's. We all know that Blade's car was off song and in addition, it has since been found that his springs had jumped out of their cups so you should have beaten him as well. So, a little more humility wouldn't go amiss because you don't need to prove yourself.
Wazuptommi
20-12-2001, 18:21
Simon,I think your the one who needs a bit more humility, its only friendly banter ,do us all a favour take a holiday.:)
Fair comments girls......suffice to say that it's all s'posed to be friendly banter and I meant nothing by it, however, I was giving away masses of power in torque and bhp, it was only the 2nd time of driving Oulton,my slicks didn't go on till 2.40pm, I was disapointed at the majority of the EVO's there firmly believing that they were a very quick car on track.......as for Ralliarts car and it not being a track car....utter cr*p.....my car is used on a daily basis with the only mods being suspension, brakes, exhaust and a rear roll cage.....that dont make it a purpose built track car......until yesterday I really thought I'd own one (as well as the P1) within the next few months..........but I'm sorry, the P1 was THE CAR.......nuff said girls !
P.s; takes nothing away from the marque being awesome......
P.p.s; D.J Grow up....if you cant walk the walk.....dont talk the talk !
Hi Mellow
Artic evo here, have I upset Simon Extreme I did pass him and yes I did go into a spin but I did control and pulled myself out of his way there was also 2 other cars as well I knew as soon as I hit the corner I was to fast the car is different with no AYC.
Sorry about that Simon but I am sure that you have never done that yourself?

Dragon
Don't know what you are on about. I have no grudge with any tuner and if you read the posts, I have been careful not to mention anybody because I feel that would be wrong. Barry thinks I have something against RC, this is not true because I have no experience of them. I have never passed comment on RC and I never will, unless I have first hand experience.
As for your spin, you did come up fairly fast and you got closer to the back of my car than any other did. I don't know why you think there were 2 other cars about because there weren't. Finally, please can you explain how you managed to pull yourself out the way as you ended up going backwards onto the grass with all wheels locked.
I am not upset by anybody passing me. In fact, I let a lot of cars past because I wanted to do things with a clear road and because I wanted to enjoy myself as I wanted. I bought my car for myself and drive it for my pleasure and get well and truely fed up some of the attitudes.
I want to say one thing again. I have nothing against any tuners and have never posted a negative comment about RC or any others.
Mellow
There you go again. Track days are not about who has the biggest d#ck. ;) It is about individuals having fun and if you enjoyed your day, thats great. If you wish to prove who has the fastest car or is the best driver, go racing!

I'm gonna defend Mellow here - not that I'm biased or anything.... ;)
When he posted about taking his Scoob to oulton, there were loadsa comments about, such as we'll wave as we past... type. Now I know a lot of this is in jest, but, at the risk of upsetting a fair few on here, there are an AWFUL lot of people who are unbelievably up their 4sses when it comes to their cars supposed superiority.
We all know EVOs are awesome cars - it doesn't have to be rammed down our throats :)
When comparing Mellows car to the Ralliart one...that doesn't have uprated brakes? is the suspension std? how much power has it got? A lot more than the 280ish hp of Chris's I bet.........
I think it's justifiable that he's chuffed - and he's not knocking your cars. (I know you all get very defensive ;))
You lot are just lucky I wan't out there ;) ;)
Barry,
Does this give you a clue what I've got? :)

Would it be a Imprezza by any chance?:)
Ok, I'd just like to make a few points about this long winded wrangling over what happened at this trackday. If there are any truthful, just and correct, NOT excuses or whinging replies to my comments I would gladly read them:
1) If the GT2 was the quickest car of the day then why did the RC Demo car pass it twice?
2) If the Ralliart car was the fastest of the day then why did the RC cars, yes, 'cars', pass it?
3) Was ANYONE else actually making note of how many cars the RC demo went past per lap?
4) Why after 2 weeks of hype and pressure to turn up and produce the best car, finally turn up after a 3 hour drive with your car on a trailer with around 8 people (nice jackets lads) and then end up problem solving all day under the bonnet, finally turning round to say that you were 'just testing'. Surely anyone coming to such a day would spend time ensuring the best from their car before turning up or are there reliability problems?
5) The RC demo car has driven to and from many track days in the past year and never suffered any problems AT ALL.
6) Will anyone openly admit whilst standing on the pit wall, to saying that any other car than the RC demo was faster, more impressive and healthier sounding as it skittered round the final corner and down the start/finish straight? Everyones response within my sight and hearing could be summed up as 'ooh f*** thats quick'
7) In regard to driving techniques, a silver 5 has been mentioned (RC decal in rear window perhaps?), the driver has admitted his mistake resulting in a spin...fine, yet this relatively inexperienced driver compared to certain 'professionally' driven cars got back on the track, then preceeded to catch and pass said 'professionally' driven cars within 1 lap, thats '1' lap.
8) The warrender 7 and associated tuning package is surely comparable to the ralliart extreme, yet spent a large number of laps sat directly behind the extreme 's' with no trouble whatsoever.
Again, if anyone knows these comments to be untrue then feel free to comment yourselves, but NO excuses OR whinging please ladies.
On a personal note, I was expecting more from certain cars, shame all not going so well for some, looking forward to seeing all these cars again, hopefully with the reliability problems sorted. Just shows you can chuck a lot of money at a car but it has to be right. the phrase power is nothing without reliability comes to mind, well, as this day showed, RC can produce both.
Well lots of banter and some people seeing there arse, but it's all meant to be a bit of fun, can I ask did you have a good day, if the answer is yes then what the hell, if the answer is no then don't do any more track days.
Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year to you all and I look forward to the next one.
Daz Tomo.
D.J Grow up ? Whats this all about? Did I hit a sore spot there Mellow? :) I think so!
Hi Simon
I like yourself are a customer,I have had my Evo 5 getting on close to 2 years now it is my normal car as well. I do have other cars but my car commutes 60|PLS| mile a day as well.
It is only in the last 8 months I have started to play with my car at RC it is now Stage 2 pushing over 350BHP:)
I believe I am a very courteous driver and do take offence at being called aggressive. I have been driving for many years with very few problems 60,000 miles a year |PLS| in the old days.
I agree with you about Ralliart I thought that they had bought the entire works team with there coats on.
We both sound like happy customers of our tuners that I feel is good that we both take pride in our cars. I do have the Logo on the back of my car because I am very proud of what they have done.I just need to put on my own Logo next time as well as my fellow Directors keep on reminding me:)
My speed past you or towards you was not aimed at being aggressive and I do remember bringing my right arm up to acknowledge you as I always do.
The spin was quite a experience as it was the 1st time I have driver with no AYC , I was aware of you and the 2 I think Caterhams I passed you and knew that my line was out and was aware of what was going to happen.
I did control the spin and pulled it back on the grass out of your way and the other cars. I then was again quickly back out..
I am sorry if your experience of your first track day was not as you wanted it is only my 3rd and already looking forward to the next.
Anyway all the best for Xmas and amp; New Year.
With Regards

Well I'm glad I didn't go, talk about KIDS you cannot compare lap times on an open track day. If you want to really see who's quickest then just do one out lap two flying laps and an in lap, only one car on track with timing gear. Then you see there are no excuses, but that would be missing the point about track days [img]http://www.lancerregister.com/graphics/embarassed1.gif border|EQU| 0 align|EQU| absmiddle ><!--e6--> they are for FUN.
Craig can I come to some of your T/Days next year, I think it might be more friendly ?
Blade take no notice, it aint worth the time.
Merry Xmas to you all

I cannot believe that ONE TRACKDAY has led to all this!!
I only hope some of you never have any REAL problems! Get things into perspective; it's supposed to be a hobby/pastime, isn't it?!
