Hey All,

What would be the full specs on Volk CE28N wheels (in 17" diameter) fitted on an Evo7 RS2 with Ohlins Group N tarmac suspension, and AP racing brakes?

I believe the standard wheel is 17x8 with 38mm offset, but would those figures work with the CE28N? Or should I go with a different offset (like 35,30...) and/or 17x8.5 instead? I am planning on fitting 245/40R17 tires on them.

Please reply ASAP, as I will need to place an order very soon.

Thanks

It depends what size AP brakes you are going to use. I thought you needed to go for 18" wheels to fit most AP Evo kits but I might be wrong. You certainly do for the big 362 mm front disks

Simon,

I am going with the 17" AP brake kits, newly released for the Evo7.
AP brake part # CP5555-1032 for front, and CP5108-1003 for rear.

WRC4ever,

Why not fit a set of VOLK CE28N 18X9 inch wheels with 255/40R18 tires. I've seen one in an E7 RS2 here in the Philippines. You need to use however a 4MM spacer at the front wheels to give adequate distance to the lower spring perch on your tarmac-spec suspension. Saw one fitted on an E7 RS2, lowered to the max with HKS Hypermax suspension and that's what he did, as the wheels would rub against the lower spring perch.

With this, you'll have no fitment issues with your brake upgrade (unless you fit something like 380MM discs and 6-pot calipers, at least I think! :) ).

Plus, VOLK makes their 1-piece wheels with huge inner space precisely for brake upgrades so I think even with 17" wheels fitment won't be a problem with your AP set.

HTH! :)

Because they would be heavier, the tyres would absorp less road irregularities and it would be more expensive.

I think 245s are a little wide, even though you get a lower sidewall. Why not stick with the 235s?
You'd need a wider rim with 245s to keep the sidewall stiff, and it may touch. Not sure it WILL, but it MAY.

Claudius,

True about additional weight, BUT don't you think the additional rubber on the road more than off-sets the weight gain?

And hell, the CE28N in that given diameter with tires mounted still seemed to weigh noticeably less than OE wheels from the E7!

I was there during the installation of the wheels and tires on the E7, I lifted both and it felt that the OE wheel / tires seemed heavier still. :)

Btw, I think the owner fitted 255/35R18 tires and not 255/40R18 as I mentioned earlier.

I agree the Volks weigh less than the OEMs! :D The OEM wheels are 10.2kg, the Volks under 7. But still, the Volks weigh less in 17 than in 18 inch, which was my point. We're talking details, here :)

Wider tyres = more lateral grip, more sudden breakaway and less acceleration. I know WRC4EVER from the Lancerforums site, and he wants fun as well as grip, so I thought some easy drifting would be alright. ;) The car will hold the road better since the wheels are lighter, so that may be a sufficient improvement. :)

WRC4EVER, have you thought about buying magnesium wheel bolts, say from Rays? The 20 of them weigh over 1kg less than the OEMs!!! :)

Take care all,

Claudius

You know, I mentioned break-away feel before in this forum. Someone (was it Blade? ) told me you control drifting anyway with the loud-pedal! LOL! :D

The tire he plans to run is only available in either 225 or 245. I am thinking about the same setup too minus the Ohlins. Sorry claudius.

Well, that's true :) The corner exit drifting anyway.

Not that Blade would be the ideal person to speak to about drifting, though :D

Thanks for your comments everyone.
Claudius, I will check on those magnesium bolts, if they are reasonably priced, I may go for them :D

Unfortunately the very grippy and proven tires here in the U.S. (street as well as race) don't come in 235, but only in 225 or 245. So instead of going smaller, I will settle for 245.

Unfortunately, they arent reasonably priced. But not that big an expense either. They cost around USD 140.

WRC4ever: What tire are you planning on using?

I'll look for more info on the 17" AP kit.

Cluade: I thought you weren't using this forum any more? :p Lancerforums is really sucking lately. It's like USA Lancer heaven. Not even worth checking anymore...

I guess you mean AP brakes to fit 17 inch wheels, not AP 17 inch brakes? :D Those would need 21 inch wheels! :p

I'd never fit Prodrive wheels! That's SUBARU wheels!

I used to stay away from here, but have now learned to ignore the people who **** me off :)

Doh! It's early. I read the post wrong
Edited post :D

Ok, no Prodrive wheels then. But what about the Prodrive Ferrari 550?

Never heard of that. A Ferrari is no use to me, it's RWD and heavy

Err, the Prodrive 550 is a race-car. :D

About 1,200kg and 650HP, raced in Le Mans along with the Corvettes. Was leading its class but engine blew after 174 laps. :(

Oh well................... Forza Ferrari!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

That's very good for Le Mans, but not for the Rally Monte Carlo...
