How old is your clutch?
Tony
I don't think the clutches age is the problem. The question should be "How abused is your clutch?"
hmm abused to hell rosco, i did alot of first gear standing starts from traffic lights maybe thats why :(
Moses - I have recently been told thats what kills evo's as the drivetrain is weak compared to the rest of the car. After doing standing starts, side stepping the clutch and dumping it mid corner for months the whole lot self destructed. I've just spoken to a bloke with a Grp A rallycar who said whatever you do don't dump it especially in 1st gear - trust me, it costs thousands to fix! but hey where's the fun at if you can't dump the clutch?
cheers r1 mate i will try not do to that :)
thanks
Did you ever get to the bottom of the problem with 5th gear ?
I seam to have the same problem a fast gear change from 4th to 5th over 6000rpm and crunch in goes that gear.
Taking it easy now will have to book it in to get fixed but would like to know before had what the problem may be.
Jone
Mine does the same on track days. I generally get a little crunch as I change down from 5th to 4th. Nothing real concerning yet, but you know it's only going to get worse!
yeah guys i had to order the syncros for the 5th gear still waiting for them
Look like I will be needing some myself how much are they ?
65 or 68 quid mate i got it from jenny at rc plus vat that is
Thanks for that will order a set
Jone
jone the syncros are cheap but the labour is unbelieavable :D best get it changed if its in for a clutch job otherwise it costs mega bucks

But shouldnt you change 5th gear itself as well Moses? IMHO it COULD be worn down due to all that crunching, or does the synchro take all the abuse?
hmm need to look into that it goes in after trying so maybe the gear should be ok, sams was worse than mines but he changed changed all the syncros and stuff and now it goes in like butter

i had my trany opened to have the syncros replaced due to crunching shifting to 3rd gear at 6500 rpm. the 3rd gear was still intact, no chips were seen thou you cud see that it was slightly more worn out than the other gears. do you have to change the gear itself and syncro to fix the crunching problems or jus the syncro will do? any feed back will be highly appreciated. tnx
best speak to sam as in evo-7 mate he had a very big prob with 3rd gear, all he did was change all the syncros and now its going fine, ive tested it, speak to him he will be able to help more :)
