View Full Version : Forum Performance
I'm looking into future upgrades for the board and one area is around performance. I've seen a few comments about the performance of the board (or lack of it) and wanted to see if there is a real performance problem out there.
Please vote for the most appropriate option, I've split them across modem users and broadband/business users. Any other comments please post here.

I'll vote for fine (Broadband user) as it appears quite fast most of the time. On the quite rare occasions that it isn't fast though it is very slow, so much so that I give up instantly.....
I`ve got isdn, so voted in the modem users.
Quite slow for me, the server just seems slow compared to other BBS`s that i use.Scoobynet is always faster for instance, and it has *alot* more users!

the main problem is the avatars and signatures.......
ban them :D

must admit that the site is a pain in the ass when logged on through analogue line.
however ADSL makes it a piece of **** - no problemo at all
my view is that if people can afford an Evo, then they should be able to stump up for broadband - tight arse technophobes should be slowed down as punishment.
and if you live in the outback where ADSL is not available, then you should move house - simple as that.
If you don't already know you can stop people's signatures and avatars being displayed which will speed things up, especially for modem users. Just go to User CP, Edit Options and turn them off.

its a nice ****in forum but never seen jc laugh as in :D
Avatars are stored in cache though arent they, so why should they slow things down?
Rich.
Another thing that you can be complimented on is the speed of the 'Search' fuction. It is very quick...and it seems to work fine...a recipe that not too many boards seem to have grasped!

At times, it gets horribly slow. When other sites are fast. Usually after midnight.
Searching is fast because every word in every post is written seperately into a database. Means that submitting a post can be slower, but the searching makes up for it :).
When things go slow late at night it's either the ISP doing some maintenance or me backing the forum database up (nearly 1Gb  ). Most people are in bed then :D.

I lost my sleep over not having the Evo! But I'll get it back tomorrow, you wont hear from me anymore then :D LOL
Backup is what I figured...
In the day I use my works internet which is a 1MB connection and the site is almost as fast as an EVO
At night I have to use poor old dial up its slow at times quick others no more than any other sites.
Jone:)
