Hi all,

Do any of you know about fitting 19s on an EVO6? any idea whether we need to do any modifications and what width they need to be? And the tyres? 235/35/19, will they be too wide do you think?

I like the OZ Superleggara and the F1 Cups, do you know whether you can get these to fit?

Aparently it is difficult to get wheels to fit the EVO6; there isn't much choice... I have heard the Merc fitting is similar and you can get them on but they don't fit all that well....

Can any of you help?

Thanks!

Hello, I asked this a while back but didnt get many answers so I just went out and did it. :)

I have orderd 19" Oz Superleggera with 235/35/19 they fit fine with the addition of 2, 3ml spacer's for the wheels to clear the front caliper's. I know this because I tried them before I bought them, I however have not fitted them yet so unable to tell you how the feel on the road.

They do fit though and look pretty dam smart. :)

Yup, you definately need spacers with the OZ Superleggara`s, as thats what i`m after too eventually

I heard that 19" knack up the handling, so will be sticking to 18" to be sure, though i have to admit 19" looks the bee`s .http://forums.planetclans.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

I heard that 19" knack up the handling,

Is there any proof of this? I cannot see how it could.

Just seems strange to me. :)

Dunno m8y.Maybe because theres less side wall to flex they tend to skip across the road alittle more??

*shrugs*

hmm nice, so any idea what fitment you can get cos i'm not sure that you can get superleggeras or oz f1 cups to fit the evo6. Do you know if this is right or you need to get ones that fit a different car that has a similar fitting?

Why would anyone buy the OZ superleggera wheels. They are known to buckle like Cornflakes. From normal driving and not hitting the biggest potholes in the world. And here we're talking about 16" and 17" wheels. I imagine 19s would be even worse.

I would stay away from OZ Superleggera if I were you.

See Richard Parham's VI in Members Cars. He had 19 inch BBS CH wheels fitted and said they were fine, no rubbing etc., even when thrashing it round the Nurburgring!

LOL!

Why buy superleggeras?

The superleggeras are a very good choice as they are very light for an aluminium wheel, and if you buy an heavy rim especially in 18 or 19 inches, the acceleration, braking and handling will be worse, especially on a 4wd, and they are unsuspended weight!

A better choice would be a competition magnesium wheel, that can be stronger, but to be even lighter you will have to go for very expensive japanese wheels like the volk te 37 magnesium,
that are around 1000£ ono for around 5.8kg in 18.
The te 37 aluminium are about 500£ ono, 8kg in 18, and should be stronger then the superleggera, but at around 200£, and less than 9 kg in 18 the superleggera is a good choice, there have been some broken spokes sometimes, but in general they won't broke, they should have fix the problem now at oz, and they are btw more resistant than a lot of other aftermarket wheels.
You have also to consider that when they broke it's because they are made from forged aluminium, and they will not bend easely, but brake at a certain point, like magnesium wheels.

There are a lot of evos that have got superleggera without problem, even the mine's evo vii.
The only one I know that broke a spoke on a sl is clive, but he just replaced the wheel and he kept the superleggeras.

If you really don't want them, have a look at the speedlines 2120sc in magnesium or the 2021 in aluminium.

Thats right Maxi, I use the Superleggera's and broke a couple of spokes on one of the rear wheels, but I did sideswipe the kerb hard! Other than that they don't appear to be weak, I drive the car very hard and all the other wheels are straight even tho I have kerbed all of them, some at speed. This includes trackdays and riding the sawtooth kerbs! I also had a set of Blitz Z1 Technospeed which I found bent much easier than the OZ's :D

Hi,
I am currently running my evo 5 on 19" BBS Challenge with 235/35/19 Pirelli tyres. Also have HKS lowering springs & they DO rub the arches in the rear but only when I am really gunning the car in corners etc. They really look the part but for handling just could not be compared to the standard 17" OZ. Technically I dont know why but from behind the wheel they are certainly not as good. So really you need to ask yourself which you would preferr. Handling or looks. Maybe try find a happy medium & go for 18" A mate had 18" Compomotive Mo's on his 5 & they really looked well but he also thought they took from the handling compared with the standard rim. Happy wheel hunting. ??????

nice one, cheers for that. i think 18s are the way to go although handling i guess is pore inmportant than looks.... hmm maybe.... i think...

expensive though aren't they.... looking for some secondhand ones really..

The bbs in 19" will give you a very bad handling because they are heavy!
The compomotive are also very heavy.

18 inches wheels are probably the best size for the evo with 225 40 18 tyres, but if you buy 18 or 19 inches wheels, get light wheels to get better handling.

Superleggeras are a very good choice for theyr weight and price, but if you have to put spacers fit good quality light ones!

If you fit a big 19 inches wheel to the evo the habdling will be worst if you get an heavy wheel with too wide tyres and standard suspenion, but could be better if the 19 wheel is lighter than the standard oz wheels, you have better tyres and gr n suspension with the good settings.

magnesium wheel

I was told the superleggreas are magnisium. :)

Right, I have now run 19's for a few days and can honestly say my car handles much much better! I have No tire roll, no rubbing, no loss of breaking and my acceleration seems just the same. So there you go, 19's are fine in my book and I dont see what the fuss is about. I am more than happy. :)

They do look the nutts....

cryptwark - that looks **** hot, nice one! what fitting did you ask for when you ordered them? i might have to get some the same. and the offset and stuff??

also, is the car lowered? i have HKS springs on mine and don't want the wheels to catch..

Cheers

Cheers dude. :) The ofgfset I dont know i'm afraid I just went in and told them that Oz do a 19" to fit the evo can you get me some please. :D

You need to fit 2 3ml spacers for the wheels to pass the calipers on the front. The tire size I got is 235/35/19, my car is not lowerd and does not rub atall. I do think you can get away with lowering it though and I may have to do this to mine....

I got these from a place called wheelbase for 1600, do a search on the web to find there site. :)

top one, seems like a good way to spend £1600, might have to give it a go :-D
