For all you guys who live above the Watford gap. A chance to take part in the world famous MLR sprints

Following the massive success of the register organised Haynes sprint events, and also following requests from some of our more Northern members, the MLR is pleased to announce it has reserved a day at a sprint track near Grantham in Lincolnshire.

MLR members have run at this track last year and though under subscribbed the day went well, everyone whom attended had a great time and are sure to return this year.

This event is to be held on Saturday the 17th June, This date does clash with the d1gb championship@silverstone however, so be sure not to double book!

The event will be run in accordance with RAFMSA sprint rules, all that means to you the competitors is that you will need to wear a full coverall (not neccesarily MSA approved, just so it covers the arms and legs, clean overalls would be ideal) a helmet, and the car will have to pass noise testing (110 decibels at a distance of 1/2 metre and 45 degrees to the tailpipe) This is quite a high limit so everyone should pass no problem.

Marshalls and a fire/rescue team will be in attendance also, although the track is very safe with plenty of run off where you need it.

This day is run in a nice relaxed manner, just like those of you who have attended Haynes will be used to and makes for a very enjoyable day, both for the hardcore sprinter, and for the novice who wants to stretch the cars legs a little for the first time.

Price is set at a very competitive £75 for the day which includes MSA membership for the day and trophys will be available for the FTD for 2 classes of car, modified and standard. Tickets are available in the shop and 4 weeks before event, we will be in touch with directions to the event and other relevant information.

Please add names below, but tickets are available on a first bought from the shop, first served basis and we unfortunately cannot reserve tickets.

Spectators are allowed as long as there are not hundreds and they need to come in the cars that are running. As we cant keep track of any more cars than are running on the track.

Crash helmets: as long as they are not badly damaged I will be happy. Scrapes from people throwing there bikes down the road are not acceptable.

people can bring there kids as long as they are not left on there own and are made full aware of where they can and cant go.

Track layout:

Any questions regarding this sprint can be directed at myself as for the time being ill be managing it. Thanks you.

Please support your club on this one as this is the most Northern sprint we do, we must have some northern members who like to use there cars as intended. Besides im going and I need beating. what better insentive? ;)

Rock on.

Great stuff.

Regarding the price, last years was based on 30 cars but as we only got 15 runners the MLR had to get the difference, this yeard we are trying to cover the cost. This is track isnt the cheapest to hire out but imo its one of the best sprint tracks ive been to.

Yes i would agree its an awesome track and worth every penny :)..... think the only time ive had as much fun in my car was a wet trackday at croft :)....come on people get your names down this is excellent opportunity to do what your car does best, and a lot easier on it than a trackday :)....runs are less than a minute once you get the hang of it :D.... think i will defo be sticking to road tyres this year as it was a very scary first few corners on cold slicks last year

Blacky,

You're more than welcome to come along but as it's an MLR event we have to offer it to MLR members first (which I'm sure you'll understand). However, if you become an MLR member ;) or we don't sell all available places - which is what happened at the Norfolk Sprint - a place is yours.

Hope this sounds fair - if we say we'll open up bookings to other cars from 1st June, is that enough notice??

Normal Clean overalls are fine and aslong as the helmet is not cracked it should be fine (DArin has a limited number available to borrow anyway).

Paul, with this beng a working military base security is quite high so I dont think spectators are allowed in but ill check for you. :) Also no one under the age of 16 is allowed im afraid.

I'm coming as im running it along with Matt (our RAF steward for the day) and Weebl if he is about. I just havent payed yet is all, waiting till I get paid.

I'm also running in my own special class 'standardish but quick as ****', its made just for me as my car is NOT modified but is possesed by a tazmainian devil or somethink. Its not 400hp anyway, the rollers were out. :p

Not sure if last years time include the penalty, Weebl would know as he did the times.

Hi Carina, the price for double drivers would be £120 for the day. Overalls you can pick up for penuts from Ebay like these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dickies-Overalls-printed-with-your-logo-or-slogan_W0QQitemZ6622608907QQcategoryZ14028QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

You need full coverings and overalls fit that bill, we have a few pairs available to borrow but numbers are limited.

Full listing on ebay for overalls roll up roll up cheap as chips so stop yer wining. (http://search.ebay.co.uk/overalls_W0QQfromZR40) :D

There are even some Subaru ones there.

Full coverings are, overalls are just the job. This is because this sprint is run under MSA rules, the price includes MSA membership for everyone for the day.

Ok guys, ive heard from our track contact and he says the following..

Hope that helps doods.

Not that quick considering some before @ 74.5s.. but enough for me and the grip i could get, seems the track wasnt giving the best times for some reason as Marky who has been in the 72's couldlnt beat my time....MT didnt seem to be having any trouble though and was in the 72s!

Geoff, i was talking about the drive there
I am intending to drive round the course at a sedate and mature manner, off boost , natrually. occasionally a light brush of the middle pedal, whilst giving the throttle a tickle at the same time to reduce wear on the gearbox, having enjoyed the scenery and taken in any wildlife on offer to view, i shall proceed on my warming down lap, so as not to damage the properties of my various drivetrain and engine lubricants :)

Guys im trying to sort this out atm. Darin hopefully is getting the timing gear to me early next week. However we are short of someone to help out atm and unless we can find someone to help out it looks like I wont get to run as ill have to do the timing. Weebl did it last time but im not sure wether he will get there.

If anyone is bringing someone with them that is willing to time for us it would be very much apreciated. Only involves jotting down times and resetting the clock.

If anyone can help please let me know.

I think a cable of some sort was too short

Would it cost much to convert it to wireless?

Knox, I think the track was too hot today as for me there was little grip on the front, the car understeered all day quite severly. Quickest time today was 51.54 set by myself.

If we get to run at this event again can all please make sure the gate is shut behind you when leaving, we got shouted at of the Milatary police and they wouldnt let us out that gate after someone left it open.

Cheers dudes.

Nige, proper timing gear like that is very very expensive.

I brought 150mtrs of cable and thought that would be enough as I couldnt recall exactly how long the run was, turned out its about 300Mtrs. :blah:

Nevertheless the timing was done very well by the marshalls, your reactions off the line counted for a few 10ths of a second.

Big up to MAtt and all the RAF boys for a great day run excellent despite being men down.

Cheers fellas.

Just wondered if was possible to get a sender unit + a receiver to add to the existing gear from someware like maplins, I dont know how the timing gear works, is it analoge or digital?

With all the techies on here I bet some one has something in a box in thier garage that could be blaged free of charge.

Not a moan, this was the best track I have been on, great Fun

Big thanks to you all

Thanks to you all for turning up and being well behaved all day. only had to mention windows and the abuse of my grass to a few of you (Rob you could have done some muck spreading for the farmer)

just so you know I was the only RAF guy there (Crab Fat!! bite my shiney metal A**).

Hope to see you there again next year. With a little more manpower to help. Trying to do 4 things at once is not good.

If any of you want to take part in the RAF sprint on the sunday you will be more than welcome. That way you can make a weekend of it.

And yes I was also sunburnt. It was a little painfull climbing into the car on sunday for our sprint.
