View Full Version : nasty roll with AVS Sports

Hi,

I changed my tyres a few months back from SO1's to AVS Sports. Done about 2000 miles now, but I don't like em. Trouble is if I yank the steering wheel to say overtake, the car feels like it rolls quite badly and also yaws a bit. With the SO1's doing the same would just result in a perfect glide across the carriageway.

So my question is, is this due to the new tyres or could the geometry/suspension need changing to accommodate the new tyres?

If it's the tyres then IMHO they suck in comparison to SO1's - is it cause the AVS's don't have as stiff sidewalls? What tyres would peeps recommend for rock hard response, agility, no roll.

cheers

Menthal

The sidewalls of the Yoko AVS will be much softer that the SO1's you have replaced. You will need to up the tyre pressures to compensate for this. No harm in getting the geometry checked, its surprising what a small difference can make. You'll find the settings in the FAQ section.

My E5 (18's fitted!)has been re-tyred with PZero Assimetrico's and I am running 2.4 bar (~34.8 PSI) front and 2.1 bar (~30.4 PSI) on the rear. Standard values are 2.2 / 1.9 respectively.

with your pressures so high, do you find it "bounces" rather than sliding and feels twitchy at high speed? only i tried the same thing when i put the new f1's on the frontand that was the result. so i bought some yoko A032R's for the front. Now,.... these have NO sidewall flex. poeple at work llok at them and ask which fork lift truck i pinched them off!:D mega grip in the dry, ok in the damp going normaly, but crap in the wet. supose it all depends how and what u use the car for...

I forgot to mention that my E5 is running on 18" alloys. It doesn't bounce about at all, just nice and planted. Car doesn't twitch at high speed either.

My EVO is used as a second (fun) car so I only take her out at the weekend and only when its dry :D

I have upped the pressure by about 3psi but didn't notice any improvement :(

Sounds like I should give the A032R's a try as mega dry grip is what I'd prefer, don't much care about wet weather grip as tend to avoid going out in the wet (gotten fed up with constantly cleaning the beast!!)

So looks like I better do some track days to wear down the AVS's :D
