View Full Version : MLR at Rockingham - open pit lane too!

We’re now only weeks away from the first trackday we’ve organised at the fantastic Rockingham Motor Speedway (Leicestershire) – the UK’s only banked oval circuit as used by the NASCAR and Indy cars, and probably the first open pit lane trackday to be held at Rockingham.

You’ll be driving the full 2.6mile International circuit which includes turns 4 and 1 of the banked oval, along with a great infield section which has a bit of everything – and isn’t flat either! The day features;

· open pit lane format (of course!)
· free driver tuition throughout the day from our well -known team of ARDS registered instructors
· full information pack prior to the day
· comprehensive tyre services from Silverline
· professional photography from Pete Wileman
· personal and car insurance, and helmet hire will also be available on the day

Add to this circuit facilities which are second to none for both drivers and spectators alike and it promises to be a brilliant day for everyone.

The date is Friday 20 September and MLR members price is only £169 for the whole day, and you can now pay by credit card via the MLR’s new online shop (just click on the SHOP icon and go to Trackdays). Additional drivers are £35 and passengers £5, both of which can be paid for on the day.

If you’d prefer to pay by cheque please make it payable to Trackstar and send to 29 Wheelers Road, Midsomer Norton, Bath, BA3 2BX.

If you have any questions, please ask here or email me direct; darin@lancerregister.com

Cheers,

Darin

See you there :D

count me in, cheque in post.
come on WVO drivers, why are there so few at track days? They are built for speed, cornering and grip which is ideal for a track day. If we can manage to pull 80 EVO's to the Rallycar day, why not a track day.
Exactly how exilerating is 'polishing your car'? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much just to watch, and how many Evo's will be there.

AndyS
10-08-2002, 19:21
Free to watch - but I gaurentee you'll end up spending the whole £5 (yes, a fiver!) to sign on as a passenger :D - many of the drivers there are more than happy to take passengers out for a few laps. A mate of mine came to the Castle Combe trackday earlier in the year - reckons it was the best fiver he'd ever spent :D

I will bring my own crash helmet, it will be a dream come true i've been out in some skylines but i think Evo's are better.

AndyS
10-08-2002, 21:01
Come and find me in the paddock - I'll show you how a stock 6 goes with a ***** driver :D. Then find someone else to show you how a tuned 6 goes with a decent driver :D

Is there an official bevy hotel arranged for the Thurs night?

Kind of reminds me of that program I used to watch when I was a little lad. "Hey look that's me"
Is this your claim to fame now Andy :D

Rosco
17-08-2002, 17:17
You really wouldn't want to hear it. You'd probably fall asleep :D

So come on then what was your band?

AndyS
17-08-2002, 17:18
Nobody you've ever heard of. It was a couple of years before the Hourse Martins were famous (about '83/84 if memory serves).
Another of my claims to "fame" is that I regularly represent the UK at an international level, but most of you would fall asleep if I expained that :D

Rosco
17-08-2002, 17:20
Oh well, still beats mine I suppose

Still waiting for Darins reply, Hence why I keep looking at this post.

Well it won't matter now then if I carry on, will it?
So are you booked in?
I might actually get to see the GPS this time. Couldn't go to Rally Day, cos wifey was feeling very poorly at the time, so she couldn't cover me at work!
Shouldn't be too much of a problem this time as it's not in the middle of Summer!

Always thought that Men & Motors was a funny name for that channel - I mean, it's full of Motors but there aren't that many men on it (it's mostly women). Not, I hasten to add, that I'm complaining about the content - just that Women & Motors might be a more descriptive name :D:D

Darin
18-08-2002, 01:42
Back now!

Rosco, Sorry - haven't seen any mail yet  Am I looking for the electronic or parchment variety?? I'll let you know when either arrives!

Rog, Noise? Yep, lots of it . . . 105db, so no Castle Combe probs. I'll get back you (all) with details of a local hostelry. :D

Dave, You're already down!! And as much as I like seeing you and Kev play "magnetic 6's", I can't wait to see the SR3 around Rockingham!

HH6, Be great to see you there mate - don't worry about it being the first-time . . . Graeme or Mark will jump in and show you the ropes!

Gaz, It's perfect timing . . .everyone can come to Rockingham and then get down to G-Force the very next day to see if power = lap times (Oops, my mistake there's no timing allowed is there?!

Cheers,

Darin

They'll just spend all day bitching about transmission losses (and heaven help anybody that suggests different tyres might affect performance!)

Rosco

Darin- ignore my email, forms in the post, I'll have to risk it!

It's got to be worth the risk!

gaz@cpp
18-08-2002, 18:54
ANDY S i think you missed the most important parts, 1,The tarmac at castle combe is older than the tarmac at rockingham so the car will suffer more friction. 2,The air is cleaner at knock hill than at rockingham so that would mean less ignition advance at the rock so they would be down on power compared to knock hill. :p ;)

AndyS
18-08-2002, 21:22
There's also the extra gravity advantage as you come off the banking at Rockingham... :D

Just a bit of info that maybe of help...
If anyone wants to get a feel for the Rockingham circuit and has a PS2 then get TOCA Race Driver.
Rockingham International Long circuit (called Rockingham Road in the game) features in the European Tour Championship. This is slightly different to the actual circuit on the trackday (International Short circuit) but it is only about 2 bends difference in the infield section. Oh yeah you will need to qualify the earlier rounds to unlock it and there are no Evos in the game as far as I know, WRX is the nearest to an Evo although there is an Eagle Talon ;)

Gaz and Blade post your best lap times :D

Gaz,

I spoke with Darin yesterday and we will DEFINATELY have a tyre man there from 8.30am - 5.30pm :)

The cossy is a mere mortal of bhp ;)

As for the EVO.....someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse.....you know how it is....so I'm on the look out ....again.....it was more of a show car than a track car....t'wouldv'e been a shame to "kill" it :(

How did the 'beast' perform at Oulton?

Will it be at the 'Rock'?
