I shall be getting a Goodridge brakeline kit installed at my Evo service on Tuesday. Should I stick with the dealers recommendation of DOT 4 fluid, or should I go for DOT 5.1 as a lot of others have?
Will using DOT 4 have any detrimental effects?

Get yourself some Castrol SRF , its bloody expensive
but worth its weight in gold. If you get fluid fade using this,
your surname is Makkinen.

Fireblade,

I use AP DOT 5.1 which is considerably less expensive than SRF and has held up OK on trackdays. It seems a good compromise - personally I wouldnt go for DOT 4, but I guess if its road use only it wont be a problem.

I have good experience with ATE Blue racing brake fluid in my cars, no more fading on the track.

I also use ATE Blue racing brake fluid in connection with my Movit kit.

SRF is better, but the ATF stuff is very, very good.

Nothing else is though - these two are your top choices

I personally use SRF... don't want to chance a cheaper one, even if ATF is good

srf can fade (especially if you don't change it regularly)
who makes this ATE and how does the price compare? (srf $100nz a can here)
sounds interesting

thanks

Andrew,

SRF can boil also. But not in my setup. Cooling is key...

STill, I flush it through every track day, and replace it every few months!

RC use ATE Blue, and Clive is the last of the late brakers,he really abuses his brakes,he said that the Blue is fantastic ,does'nt boil,no loss of pedal feel ,or degedation.

Also look at Brembo LCF600 (which I stock BTW) , 316 deg c dry boiling point and 204 deg c wet boiling point. I wud advise changing brake fluid at least every 6 months 2 retain best performance , but if u trackday frequently change every track day. This may seem excessive , but the massive heating and cooling cycles occuring during racing type use causes the brake fluid 2 absorb moisture from the air at a much gr8r rate , this will translate in2 fade and soft pedal.
