Hi all
I brought my wife a Evo 6 last week and having not drove it for a few days we had to go out last night so we went out in it.

I soon realised there was a noise comming from the Transmission wich got louder as the speen rose. It did not mattere what gear you were in or even if you knocked our of gear and rolled it was still the same.

The noise is like a werring like a wheel bearing has gone (i have checked them there ok)

The noise seems to come from the LH side towards the front maybee the transefer case ??

Can any one shed any light on this as i am very concerned about this

Yours Paul :(

Sounds like your input shaft bearings have gone, common problem with some evo's, bad batch of boxes from mitsubishi. I have this with my 6 too, check out the faq http://www.lancerregister.com/faq/F06/f06.html

Hi mate, is it similar to a whistling type of noise rather than a whine?

And at what speed does it disappear? eg. if you knock it into neutral and coast from 30mph to 0 mph

It's just that I had a similar noise on my 6 a few month back and I for the life of me couldn't find it, then a few weeks later the noise went and haven't heard it since.

unKle

the noise is the same wether it is in gear or not. I do think it is the input shaft bearing, did go to Extreme on sat but there was no one there but a sales man :( so will have to ring them on monday to see what it will cost to fix.

The thing is we have only had the car for 10 days and only coverd 568 miles since we brought it

I have had exactly the same whistling noise in my E6 start to occur with the following symptoms:-
1. Is not always apparent when car is cold but always there when car driven for a few Kms.
2. High pitched whistling sound.
3. Dissappears when my speed falls below 20Kmh
4. Noise occurs irrespective of in gear/out of gear clutch in/clutch out.
5. LH side of vehicle.
6. I have a fairly loud whine when I engage my clutch sometimes.

It seemed to appear after I had a wheel alignment.

I guess this seems like the exact symptoms of the input shaft problem. Also from what info. is avail. it seems that if left unchecked the bearing particles could cause problems with other bearings in the box.

Great....time to fork out some $$$$$!!!!
