View Full Version : Sprint class ABC/Bhp
Well ive been thinking for a while now on this, and no its not just Crypts amazing standard car. :D
But does anyone else think it would be fairer, especially on older cars if groups were kept into bhp output.
As newer cars are getting higher bhp figures from factory and also supper specials like extreme models and Mrfq are hugely different to say evo 1/2/3 models from factory.
just an idea and hopefully fairer on every competitor. ;)
Group up to 300bhp
400bhp
and Unlimited.
And high torque low bhp comp cars band.Mt :p
No chris iam not trying to run your sprints, just trying to make things fairer :D
Corbs mate
I have incorporated this system into the Scooby Speed Challenge. It works as follows: -
Up to 320 bhp
321 - 400 bhp
401bhp+
You also want to keep the groups in similar numbers IMHO. So if you have an idea of the bhp figures of all regular competitors then you can work out the levels for where to divide the classes.
Yet to see if this works though as our Championship doesn't start till April :D
Cheers
Terry
ps - you thought anymore about coming to Goodwood? :D
I like the idea of BHP sectors, the Norfolk Sprint is following the Haynes set up at the moment.
As said a Std 320 up against a Std E3 on 260 BHP
The problem is if owners have no BHP figures on entry?
Also with just 20 cars to many sectors may leave some a bit thin on numbers.
Cheers Liam

I like the idea.
Would make any type of sprint event fairer. :smthumbup

Great i recon it would work, with a bit of honesty and asumption :D
It'd be good in that there would be more classes and more people have a shot at a podium. I doubt it would alter the fairness though as BHP has rarely been a deciding factor in any of the Haynes sprints as it's not a big BHP circuit.
Factors like suspension, brakes, weight and tyres will have more impact on lap times than a big chunk of engine performance. What then happens when you have say an otherwise standard 410bhp car vs. a 390bhp one with with all the extra bits?
As Aidy says, BHP is largely irrelevant at Haynes for example (didn't he argue differently a while back ;) ) and the nature of sprinting on most circuits is geared towards handling more than outright power.
To classify cars properly I think you need to look at all modifications, but going to that length will mean we end up with something like MSA rules.
Personally, I thought the classification system for Top Gear sprint worked quite well with the standard class being based on factory spec.
I have to agree with DaveG on this bhp is not the only factor....I think it should stay as it is ...or go the full hog and have the msa class rules...
wow wow lads it was an idea only, and more to help cirtain E1 drivers against say Crypt standard car with about 100 bhp difference.I agree with what every one is saying and its not all about power, but you have to agree all the top cars at haynes have nearly 400 bhp. ;)

My car is unlikly to be 400Hp, there have been explinations as to why it came out with that figure if you care to look. The cars going back the TRL once a bigger fan is sourced. The car still runs a standard ecu. I know it makes good power, ive always said iys quick, not my fault its a good one.
As ive said anyway, im not running in any class anymore, its not worth the crap. :(
Honestly, this makes me want to just sack it off all together.

Since I ran the car at the rolling road ive had digs. I know most have been in a banter way (apart from green Aidy) but there's an element of seriousness I feel from some posts. I've just had enough of it all, I run in the sprints and I really enjoy them, I don't go for the trophies and its spoiling it for me therefore I'd rather not run in a class atall. That way there is no bother for me and im free to enjoy the event without fear of comments.
I've been mentioned on a few threads of late and I haven't replied. I'm even mentioned on a Norris 8's for sale thread with Fatmans little comment. Just when you see these things it bugs and all builds up. It no longer becomes funny.
Incidentally, I know this isn't meant in a dig way as ive met you and your missus on a number of occasions and always found you to be genuine dudes who know how to use an evo. Just sick of being mentioned with the whole thing.
Stupid rolling road. :ill:

Still when we are all out there driving and enjoying our cars,we forget all the rubbish on here! :D
Cryptwalk cant deny the car is fast i hope to see you at the Norfolk Sprint :D
Fun on the track is what it is about not BHP and numbers.

Dont worry about comments from the dolts about your car Rob. Youve still got to drive well to achieve the times that you have. Anyone on here with half a brain cell would realise that if you had known about your extra power you would hardly have taken it to a rolling road session with everyone there! ;)

By the way, many thanx Corbs for thinking about us Oldies,(and i dont just mean the cars!). Gotta admit that Ive found it necessary to drive even more idiotically these days just to try and keep up!! Great fun tho. Nothing makes the adrenalin flow like being a fag papers width away from total disaster!! :D

How come I get singled out? I think I've made one comment about this on the whole MLR. Seems like you have a problem you need to get over mate.

Everyone else it seems managed a wink with there semi serious post.

Aye, that'll be fantastic.
I'd rather you and the others like that keep there opinions to themselves. I read enough crap on here as it is...
Rob, please dont take any coments i have made to heart ;)
If i had the same set up as you (bhp might be close) i have no doubt you would still beat me. :D
Most of the people on here only think they can drive fast, putting our cars on the tracks is a big risk, and it takes balls to be so comitted, like yourself.
You need the sprints, and the sprints need you so dont you dare give it all up.
I will be good to see you in norfolk, even though that means getting beaten by you again :D
c u soon

Alan, I wouldnt give them up, I like them too much. ;)
TBH Ive been looking at joining a sprint club that runs msa events as most sprint events with the mlr are southern based (very southern for me). I would like to do at least one a month, this year via the MLR im likely to do Norfolk, barkston and maybe one Haynes. 3 in a year isnt enough for me hence the looking at msa clubs.
I know the MLR does all it can and I think if we would of filled the number last year at Barkston, we'd prolly have 3 this year there. Real shame as you know this is a great sprint track. :(
We just have to make sure we fill the numbers at the one this year. I'm sure it will do better as everyone enjoyed it last year..
Rob, you pedal your car well - just look at the Haynes time board and you can see that - doesn't mater what a dyno says - you still have to be able to drive it !
One owner at the rollers was looking for 450 bhp ATW and didn't even know how to open the bonnet
Don't give up just because of mindless keyboard hero's
