Dont get me wrong - I love Suzukis (my TL1000R is the dogs), and I love the look of the 2005/06 Gixxer thou - I just cant get on with that exhaust

Personal preference thing i guess  like marmite.....

no not biased...i have been on just about all the gixxers (250,400,600,750,1000,1100) but i had a firestorm last and loved it i also rode the ZX-10,fireblade and R1 all back to back and i can tell you the gixxer is the one to have!

the exhaust takes about 10 mins to change but you'll find the difference netween it and the yosh (example) isn't that much in the way of power or wieght...mostly noise and i can tell you every bit of the gixer is functional (like the exhaust...low centre of gravity, lightwieght titanium, increased lean angle)

trust me i've owned most brands and the suzuki is the one to have (unless you do alot of winter riding!) they are such a good machine....

Howzer

or you could live with the ZX-10's underseat exhausts and be like every other thou on the market...... ;)

Aardvark

Agreed - the zorst on the gixxer makes it look six years old - the zx10 looks sweeter - or dammit wrap them both and ill take the pair.!

Gixers the way to go,

The yoshi has the power valve missing from the link pipe so you get all the power on tap so brings the power in quicker, thats the main difference as well as the noise.

K5 and K6 might be a bit quicker and a bit better than the prevoius gixers but the K3 and K4 are the best looking IMO :)

howzer23
09-02-2006, 17:12
yeah but on a dyno both my k4 and 5 only made about 4-5bhp of difference (TRC) so it wasn't all that much....but they have a nice note.....

and yes gixer's the way to go...

8 Feb MCN did 2006 model test on the road if you didnt see it

For the road (not the track) they came in the following order

1st - Fireblade
2nd - GSX-R 1000
3rd - ZX - 10
4th - R1

The R1 fourth? - just shows how bike development marches on. There was a time when the R1 was head and shoulders above the rest!

Very nice mate.... wondered what colours when you said black.

and the MCN was a road based test but i think most people ride them in more of a "fast road" style.....the firebland is a good machine but a bit unexiting and the ZX-10 goes the other way and is a bit twitchy....IMHO... ;)

nah mate, when i say twitch i mean 120mph bar wobbles over slight crests.....and an unplanted feel in the ass end....not good!

you actually have more feel on the gixer...IMO

have to say though Kawacrappie normally make a very good front end but i think the wieght Vs power is making it difficult to build a really planted bike now.....

I always thought it was suposed to be called MOTORCYCLE LIES

What bugs me with the MCL is when they say "this is an artists impression of what the new world beating Ariel square 4 will look like, and it will beat all the current superbikes, weigh 125kg and have 285 bhp at the wheel" all ****** hype, when the bike comes out if it ever does it's nothing like the artists impression, is slower than a goldwing, heavier than a goldwing and will have 73bhp at the crank, there'll be no excuses to explain why they prodicted something different.

In brief they are a load of W@NKERS and I personally don't buy it or read it any more.

Any ****er can get a superbike round a corn  it's hardly a challange is it ;)

Guys go out pass their test a week later buy a new plastic fantastic and think they're ace, down the pub with all the talk of how fast they are, but they sure as hell couldn't ride a hard to ride muscle bike ;)

You can go for a fastish ride on a muscle bike and come back home feeling you've done your best, it's hard to get the same feeling on a superbike :)

I hate the underseat pipe fashion :blah: when will it end? hideously ugly/clumsey looking and highers the centre of gravity

I love the gsxr 1k exhaust :coolsm:

I had an 04 zx10r and it was awesome in every way (except finish durability) I wish kawasaki had stayed with the side exhaust :(

I'd take the kwak because they seem the 'more on the edge' machine. My mate has a k5 gsxr 1k and it's a lot easier to get the power down. I like a good old scare myself and the reputation alone was enough for me to buy a zx10r.

600,s are as quick as anything on normal roads they just dont feel like it ;) as you have to rev them to death
750,s a good compromise best handling and not much less power :D

BDS
12-02-2006, 11:22
If you keep a 600 on the boil it's quick otherwise forget it.

If your on a 600 behind a 1000 in top gear and you both roll on the power you got to drop down the gear quick as just to keep the 1000 insight, but if the 1000 drops gears as well then your f@cked and he's gone. If you recon the 600 is as fast as a 1000 on the road you ain't riding your 1000 fast enough

dave1
12-02-2006, 12:09
i did,nt mean in a straight line on a normal twisty road on a 600 you can ride the wheels of it grab bighandfuls of throttle while still cranked over ;) on a thou you got to be more careful, picking it up before getting on the gas for fear of highside, get a long enough straight to use all the power yeah fair enough but there ar,nt that many straights that long :D specially in cornwall :D

I swapped it for a 1000 twin, and to be honest,I miss ragging the nuts off the old one.the only difference is the straights, which are boring anyway, and the ridiculously long wheelies I can now get away with.

Good Dave, a nice clean straight K1 that one, enjoy it m8.

the thou is wwwwaaaaaayyyy faster than a 600, just needs a bit more skill to ride it fast and contol the power even in twisties, my K5 is only a couple of kgs heavier and is much better balanced which equals a faster bike in the corners.

Howzer

dave1
12-02-2006, 19:00
it may feel faster but in reality it is no quicker than a well ridden 600 as you just cant use all that power in the real world its the same reason a superbike can qualify on a motogp grid

howzer23
12-02-2006, 19:22
no, actually it is way quicker, at edzil (local disused air field) my thou is about 3 seconds quicker round the track due to higher straight speeds and higher corner speeds, 3 secs doesn't seem alot but in 20 laps thats a minute lead!

my ability is the same as it was on the 600 (infact i was probably more used to the 600) so i know it is the machines ability.

and i'm sure if you asked john reynolds if he would rather compete on the thou or a 600 we know what the answer would've been!

also look at the TT lap times!

i would say that speaks volumes.... ;)

dave1
12-02-2006, 19:31
airfields and the tt are different i said real world i have had a k5 i know what they go like im not slagging it off im simply saying you cant use all there power on a A road with tight bends traffic junctions etc but a 600 you can you,d never shake off a 600 in the real world
while you mention the tt a proddie thou laps in 19 mins a 600 laps in 20 mins so 1 min slower over 30 MILES!!! yes your right speaks volumes :p

howzer23
12-02-2006, 19:39
i reckon if you were trying you would shake off a 600, it's the exit speed/power of the thou that makes them so quick in the real world and as you know you don't have to do the gearbox jigg  on a thou, i reckon i'd **** all over a six if i could ride both bikes at the same time against each other.

for the first 2000miles on the thou i know i could've been faster on the six but now that i'm used to how the power comes in on the thou and when the BT014's start to move i would definatly be faster on the thou.

i do agree though that if you didn't have a descent amount of throttle control you would be quicker on a six as it is much more forgiving.

and the TT is real world, real roads and real surfaces and some serious corners!

Just my 2p's worth!

I know this because it was tried and tested,my mate on a gsx-r 1000 k2,me on the R6.He is a f**kin lunatic and a very handy lad on a bike,so that rules out 'he wasn't trying'.We both commented when we finished the stretch, that there wasn't much in it.

thats sort of what I meant .Don't forget boys, the rider is the main factor in a bike that goes fast and handles well, opposed to a slow wobbly ****ter :)
looks like we're all gods eh ;) :D

howzer23
12-02-2006, 19:51
yeah but i reckon if you were to race your self on the thou and six you would be noticibly quicker on the thou (assuming you are as competent on both) because of the massive power difference between the two (60-70hp) and the very small difference in wieght and the fact that the new thous are so well balanced and controllable (exclude ZX-10 :D )

and i see what you're saying about certain bits of the road but the TT course is a real road and if you were out for a run with your mates on it and timed the whole course the thou would pretty much devastate the six, theres no doubt the six's are ballistic (i loved all mine!) but the thou is just a different animal

look at the times also on the PB test track! especially Vulcans which is where most people assume a six would be quicker!

and thanks for the comments i'm well happy with both and feel very lucky to have them both! (took alot of work though!)

Yep i like a tidy garage! i managed to get perfectly fitting carpets to put the bikes on too (a bit sad maybe!), the RM was a viscious b'stard!!!! loved it though! only did about 5 races on it before i sold it but did a heap of practice on it it was way too advanced for mr too race though used to come off the track and i couldn't eben undo my armour or helmet i was that knackered! i would love to get a RMZ250 or YZ250f (the four stroke one) i have a mate with one and it is so much easier to muscle around and you don't have to be as good to get better results!

Rog thats a fair machine, good luck with the corners......i'll look out for a hiyabusa shaped hole in the hedges around scotland!!

I think the new zx10 is no where near as good looking as the older version.
IMO the new R1 is the best looking by far,

Howzer

My mate let me loose on his British super stock K5 1000 at Cadwell last year and it was by far the best handling bike i have EVER been on, :coolsm:
The grunt out of corners and the grip out of corners has to be tried to be belived,
160 mph down park straight and it's STILL lifting the front wheel in the air, :D
The slipper cluch when coming down the gears was fantastic, it stops the rear chatter and stops it backing into corners,
Will some kind soul BUY ME 1 . ;)
