View Full Version : Power Engineering Rolling Road Day

Is anyone friendly with anyone there, as I personally think it would be good to have a rolling road day there, sometime in the near future, especially as most of the rolling road days are just too far for me.

Anyone going to take up the challenge??

blade
21-10-2001, 16:27
Yeh - I know them all VERY well as they did all the work on my motor.

What help do you need?

AntsEvo
21-10-2001, 17:35
Blade, as you are a Master Member, I thought that you may be the best person for the job!!

I would be nice to have one set up there soon!

I suppose I could help, but I am not very good at that sort of thing. i could provide the sandwiches!

But seriously, I would be willing to help organise something (but never have done before)

I suppose we need to see how many people are prepared to come, what price PE will charge, and what day - I suppose Saturday is best for most people, although any day suits me.

AntsEvo, I have mailed PE for you and asked for dates/prices etc.

Who would want to go to this? You can compare your power outputs to mine :D :D!

Simon Evo
21-10-2001, 19:16
I would be interested in this. Also, I should be going there on the 3rd November for a quick power run.

Blade,
Knew you would get that in!
Would like to see what my power is now and importantly the torque figures.

If simon is going on the 3rd November - that could be a good day - although may not be enough notice.

Suppose we ought to see what PE say...cheers for that blade

blade
23-10-2001, 13:54
PE said no problem. Need to talk to Mervyn, who does the rollers, but he is on hols till tomorrow. Suggest you call Mervyn next Monday (don't disturb him mapping my car :) ) and work out some dates with him. Discounts etc. will depend on numbers I assume.

Let me know what dates you get from him and I shall see if I can come down - although my graphs will be there even if I am not!

Simon Evo
23-10-2001, 15:05
I am going on the 3rd November now. I will speak to the guys there to see if we can arrange anything.

AntsEvo
24-10-2001, 14:05
Simon, thanks for that let me know what the say, will then post message on board to see how many are willing to take it up.

I may be interested in coming.depending on cost and dates.
The MLR rr days cost about £25 so if it is around that I will go.
Perhaps some more of the Berkshire massive will go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

24-10-2001, 22:24
I've tagged onto a couple of PE R/R days with other car clubs and the prices were £25 |PLS| VAT one day and £30 incl. VAT the other.

Steve.

I'd be interested in going and 3rd November would be ideal.

is this a continuation of the im speechless thread where i was told rolling roads were for pub talk
if it is,then im speechless !

AntsEvo
25-10-2001, 18:16
Everything is a continuation of speechless....or will it??

Has anyone managed to get through to PE, i tried about 7 times today and got an answerphone saying they were tuning a car.....bet I know who that road rolling hog is!!

Corporal Punishment
25-10-2001, 20:43
RR's are not the best way to set the car up and on the road is the best way.

For what it's worth, I would forget all thoughts about rolling roads and BHP/Torque figures - Leave it for the guys down the pub who DON'T have the kind of car you are fortunate enough to own.
If it feels right, it IS right and you don't need a rolling road to tell you that!

Agree totally with SuperL. Leave the rolling roads to those who would rather boast than drive

The limitation is on a rolling road which is very one dimentional in its approach.

AntsEvo
25-10-2001, 20:49
I thought one of the reasons of holding a rolling road was for everyone to to meet up, the last rolling road I went to, I met a lot of people who use the board, and it was nice to put a face to the name.

Obviously I totally agree that the best way to set a car up is on the road (as mine was done), but its also still nice to have a proper printout of what the car is doing compared to others that are there on the day - that puts everyone on a level pegging as regards to same day and amp; same machine setup.

One very useful thing that I also found was that it can locate problems, as I found out!!, boost pressure can be checked and to see when and if it falls off, as well as your own torque figures.

25-10-2001, 20:57
Nice back pedalling, but you will have to try harder !!!!!!

Simon7extreme
25-10-2001, 21:20
Unbelievable! On another thread peopel are claiming they can feel the diference between fuels where the diference might be 5 bhp or less, whilst here there are claims are you need to go on a rolling road to see if your car is running properly. Things that make you go mmmm...

AntsEvo
25-10-2001, 21:34
Simon,

You must know I have to disagree with you on this one, remember when I first picked up my car.....I thought it felt slower than my 6, well until I got it on the Rolling Road I did not know. True it would have been different if someone else drove the car, but that did not happen

AntsEvo
25-10-2001, 22:06
And.....

You can't have a rolling road topic board with any rolling road events

blade
26-10-2001, 00:31
Err, sorry boys. They were mapping my car today. A few people are on holiday and I had them running round in circles to get my car ready in time.

I am that Rolling Road Hog.

On the other points, I am starting to get the feeling Mr Pluto is a little negative about everything from some of the other threads. Rolling Roads are useful for mapping cars, and comparing outputs when run on the same day under same conditions. They are also a social event.

If anyone disagrees:

a) Don't come to the event
b) Don't come to the event
c) Err, get the message?

A bit contentious, yes, but not everyone has to adopt the same view as you. I don't think anyone who is going is really interested in the graph they get, but comparing against other similar cars gives them an indication/warm feeling/some idea how they car is RELATIVELY performing. Seat of the pants is not enough unless you have half a dozen similar cars you can drive.

We could also try the psychic engine mapping process.

I dunno, this forum is getting worse. People are just looking for more and more things to argue about. It is a day out, let peope enjoy it. If you don't like it - don't come, no one is forcing you.

Sorry to be narked, but I am.

Corporal Punishment
26-10-2001, 08:42
Sir,again you have not read the thread properly
if you cannot understand it
a) read it again
b) read it again
c)Err, get the message?

i have quoted your comments, the same as i have above in the thread

the point i am trying to make is that many of those booking in here were trying to tell me rolling roads were a waste of time.
anyone new to the club,(mark1,maybe !!) might get the wrong idea ?

blade
26-10-2001, 09:08
Mr Pluto, I think the problem is that your postings are a little cryptic. having read them again, I am not sure still if you are in favour of RR tuning or not?

So, why don't you simply enlighten me in plain words which it is! I am not looking to offend you, just understand your point!

blade
26-10-2001, 09:09
Sorry, lost the power of writing proper english grammar in the above post - meant to say I am still not sure!

Corporal Punishment
26-10-2001, 09:17
YES !
I did say i believe the before and after figures were of more importance than the numbers
and yes, experianced tuners can make adjustments on the road with egt monitoring etc

dedeffa
26-10-2001, 10:22
imho its worth going to as a social and to talk to the PE guys about the mods I want too do......just as blade said, the rr will give me an idea of how my car is compared to others, all useful info that would't hurt

AntsEvo
26-10-2001, 10:30
Sorry, to interupt all this, but has anyone actually managed to set this up yet - looks like 3rd November would be a good date.

I tried calling yesterday, has anyone tried yet today, as I said earlier, I am not very good at organising these sort of things, so i need someone to take the reins for me please.

I will definitely be going, and it looks as if a few others will as well, so can anyone get the thing set up....please.

blade
26-10-2001, 11:19
YES!

I called. Odd because Simon Evo doesn't appear to be booked in. There are already 6 cars booked in, so I don't think this date can be a flyer.

Simon Evo
26-10-2001, 11:33
3rd November will not be happening as a general meet.

I am going there with a few other cars because my friend knows Steve Haggard quite well and he has set up a little private rolling road session for me and a few mates, it won't be open to the public.

What I will do, is seriously talk to them about arranging a MLR rolling road day maybe for December or something depending on their availability.

Thanks

Simon

Simon Evo
26-10-2001, 11:34
can i just add that we will be doing the runs after closing time.

Please do not call PE and ask them about it.

Thanks

Simon

AntsEvo
26-10-2001, 11:37
Thanks Simon,

I'll leave it to you to sort something out in December.

Simon Evo
26-10-2001, 11:44
I will speak to them about which dates they can do and then go about organising the thing.

Hopefully there will be a good turnout and I could get some magazines to attend if we like. I will let everyone know what the outcome is but obviously that won't be until a week tomorrow.

Cheers

Si

Hey guys, and Blade in particular. Don't misunderstand me. I am not anti rolling roads or rolling road days. I was even considering coming to the PE event myself, but I doubt I would have put my car on the rollers. I don't feel the need but recognise that it would be a great social occassion and a chance to learn. Hope it does take place.

Ryan
01-11-2001, 12:10
did anything happen with this?

Simon Evo
01-11-2001, 20:28
I'll be making the enquiries on Saturday 3rd Nov and I will let everyone know the possible dates.

Cheers

I'm not going to this now, it has had to be postponed, however, I will try and speak to them during the week to arrange an MLR day there.

Rob...did I say that??? . oh I did, well I was all going ok, but now no-one seems to want to set this up anymore, all happened before....well you know what (by the discussions on engines, it will probably happen again - but I'll try not to be, now how did you put it....?)

Well I'm still up for it, I assume you are as well Rob (who's been very quiet lateley) - anyone else, and has anyone arranged dates yet?

Rob VI
03-12-2001, 14:47

Guys

A: Dragon dont have a rolling road (sadly, top tuners)
B: PE is cancelled as they kept letting simon down, we are now going to Powerstation on the 15th, mail simon off board for more info.

Rob, simon is coming on thursday, have a chat to him then.

Lee,is Powerstation a Sun Rolling road, the same as Noble? Its more accurate than others because it removes the necessity for human calibration and possible error.I wouldnt want to use the one at PE.
Barry:)

LeeLegend
03-12-2001, 18:26
not sure, simon has used powerstation a couple of times and rates them quite highly, but i will ask him tommorrow.

do you fancy this one?

lee

AntsEvo
03-12-2001, 18:35

LeeLegend

Hi gang,

Sorry I've not replied, been a bit busy over the last week.

I am organising a rolling road day at Powerstation on the 15th but it is strictly by invitation as numbers are limited. I was trying to keep this one a bit undercover so cheers Lee :) !!!!

If anyone seriously wants to come please mail me privately.

Cheers

Si
