Haynes Sprint Thurs 02-March-2006
Lets do it all again !!
HAYNES SPRINT No1 for 2006
MLR MEMBERS ONLY
HAYNES MOTOR MUSEUM TEST TRACK, Thurs 02-March-2006
I've managed to secure a booking of the Test track at the Haynes Motor Museum near Yeovil, Somerset.
The maximum number of cars to take part in the Sprint is 20 cars with only one car on the track permitted at a time.
1. The permitted Noise level on a weekday is 105 db, so we should all pass that.
2.Helmets are compulsory.
3.Front seat passengers are permitted.
4.If required, as usual you will need to arrange your own insurance.
The Track is open from 10:00-13:00, then mandatory lunch break. Then pm session 14:00-17:00
Next to the track is the world famous Haynes Motor Museum, with adequate toilets and dining facilities.
1/2 mile down the road is a Shell garage with Optimax
This event will cost you £35 per car, £50 for two for double driven cars, for the whole day!
Please do not pay until you are a confirmed runner !!
Visitors/Spectators are very welcome and FREE. No children please.
If there are less than 18 cars the price will rise proportionately
No-one else is on the track during the day, it is exclusively ours!
EVERYONE WITH NO EXCEPTION must sign the Haynes disclaimer BEFORE entering the track area, failing to sign this form causes me to get an ear bashing and jeopardises our hire of the track in the future,
As we are allowed to run 20 cars I will run 2 different classes, ie, a stock'ish class and a modified class, hence slicks will be allowed, but not needed.
Preference given to Mitsubishi's , if you wish to participate in an Non Mitsubishi car I will add you to the reserve list, and you will have to take a chance.
To be fair to you though I will confirm your place and add you to the list of runners one week before the event ! i.e. 22 Feb
FIRST COME FIRST SERVED !! REMEMBER ONLY 20 CARS PERMITTED !!
Tickets will be in the Club shop shortly !!
Chris,
I'm up for this if I can get a place :)

Stick me down on the reserves (Integrale again), think my gearbox leak was just because it was over filled. Hopefully better luck this time and no spins!

You've forgotten again. My car has had an Ecutek remap. Although, I'll quite happily stay in group B in you like. ;)

Sorry Chris, the spec has changed a little since the last Haynes I attended. I have Ecutek and stuff, so that puts me in Group "A" I guess. :)

Would be good to see you there Tony and take the crown ( now that your a bona-fida racing driver  ;) )
Do a search on here, there are plenty of vid clips, pics and a track layout diagram somewhere :)
I did, but found nothing. Trying to see how tight and slow the track is and whether the Z4 would stand any chance.
Point the way Jetskidia :)
Hey Tony long time buddy. The Z4 would put in a cracking time but with you behind the wheel it'll get nowhere near my time :D

Thats fighting talk !! :spank:
here Tony. It's a mix of tight and flowing corners. It's a great social day.
Mmm - looks like it definitely favours an EVO. Did you get into 1st gear in any of those corners?
It is only a poor little Z4 :D

Do you want me to add you to the reserves Tony ?
Be nice to see you there Tony :) You could even buy me lunch (if they'll break a £50 - te he he ) !!
I'm not working that day so if its dry I'll come along to smoke copious amounts of fags and chat to people as I very much doubt I'll have anything to drive !!
I'll also try to beat my record of getting there from my house (approx 30 miles away) in less than 2 hours. I ALWAYS get lost, its unbelieveable !

Have just been booked by J Tuner magazine to cover the event - so will be doing something similar to what I did for the Top Gear Sprint last year!
Chris. I'll most likely be in the new Rally car so group A. I'll be running with the std 34mm restrictor and gently getting used to the car so I'll be taking things easy at the back of the field I expect. ;)

Same for me as for Blade, I still have an oil leak although I think it's now more power steering than gearbox (hey everything leaks, it's old ;) ). Transfer box is nearly out now (to get to the rack), just depends how bad or whats leaking on the power steering but doesn't look hopeful it will be back together for thursday :(

Ken,
Dunno - never look at the forecast!
Times will be slow if it does . . . except for MT as he's been "testing" in Sweden recently (Some people take these MLR Sprints far too seriously!!) :D
http://www.metoffice.com/weather/europe/uk/westcountry.html
Looks like it's gonna be a cold one and may snow.
I was chating to Rob, his co-driver, and he told me Mike had spent a whole weekend on the white stuff in a VIII - Lucky GIT!
Best start hammering some nails into my tyres

Great fun today. Many thanks to Chris ,Jackie and Darin. I was amazed I was able to tease such a quick time out of the car whilst keeping the revs down to below 4000. I guess it really does show that smooth is fast. I was in 4th gear most of the lap  :D :D

Rich,
Started in the low 80's first thing in the wet, and 3rd timed run was a 74.96 I think, we'll know soon.
Suspension definately did the trick. It wasn't like a wobbly blancmange like the last time you saw it go around there :mhihi:
Not sure about the Toyo T1R's at the moment either. Jury's out on these, especially in the dry. Dylspeed parked up halfway through the day, as he couldn't get on with them.
Ironically, Marky does really well with them. :)
The thing with the t1rs is they arnt that good till they scrub down abit and have a few heat cycles put through them ,then the rubber gets a little harder and copes better with the extra heat on track or sprint.Still if you want outright grip then the new D02gs are brill, but hang on to them T1Rs as Knocksville done real good at Haynes on emm, plus they are fantastic in the wet for your up and coming track calender ;)
Well done on your times :D

The T1R's had about 400 miles on them before haynes, this what they looked like after 4 wet runs and 3 dry runs.
I'm sure they'll be alright, it's just me looking for excuses :D
That is how Alan1V's looked when he ran on his new set. Better once scrubbed in.
The tread flexes because it is tall i supose
What pressures was you running??

What pressures was you running??
Cheers Liam
Liam,
Was running stock 28psi rear and dropped the fronts from 32psi to 29psi. They'll be ok, I'm sure ;)
Alan is still running his they have done several sprints etc.
Just wondered if different pressures help or hinder on a sprint day?
Cheers Liam

Rich,
It was the same guy that did the MLR Powerstation RR day, WRC-Tech RR day and now Haynes. Wasn't the guy from Pearsons.
No wonder Darin got his car in J-Tuner this month :D

Powerstation dyno should be in the next issue of JP (on sale March 7). Dunno about the Haynes Sprint - not even written it yet! and bear in mind the Top Gear Sprint was only last month so don't expect another Evo Sprint too soon....
And I tried to order last months mag - and WH Smiths tried to fob me off with the "Spring" eddition
All I can say is I tried for about 3 weeks to get a copy of the Top Gear one, and I'm so ******** off I've given up.
Here's the full list of results:
Mike - we hijacked Jackie's laptop while tidying up - thought you would like your new group :D

Brightened up an otherwise depressing day  :D
Thanks for getting the times up Dave.
Wasn't oil surge. Dodgy injector, leading to lean in one cylinder and disappearing spark plug electrode :o
Still not sorted :(
